Got a pretty scary email from my local hospital - they said they were canceling all appointments yesterday because they'd gotten a tip that there could be riots/looting near the area. From what I've seen in the news, nothing actually happened, but could you imagine how scary/stupid it'd be if people tried looting or breaking into a hospital with known Covid patients inside??
Wow.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the last 6 or 7 days.

No kidding. And Mother Nature just "added" some potentially very distracting data in the southern section of the Gulf of Mexico.... It was officially changed from the designation "3" to a "given a name" before noon CDT today.

Yeah it's been pretty crazy, when I touched base with my friend in NYC, instead of telling me how their Covid cases were doing or how her son was moving out because he had to go back into training (and didn't want to take the chance of passing anything onto them), her opening comment was "We're good, there's protest 1/2 mile from my house so we're just watching the news in case it becomes a riot."

Sheesh. I had forgotten what time of year it was. And man, what a name, I hope it peters out quickly. Can't even begin to imagine trying to deal with that kind of weather right now.

OhMaGosh! It's our Kohana! She and princess could be sisters! The pic here is REALLY dark, but it shows 'Hana's white bib & feet. I can't find the good ones (probably still on DS' phone!) but I'll see if I can't get a better shot to upload.
'Hana is almost two, a former feral, who would not even look us in the eye a month ago. She's coming along beautifully ... partly thanks to the comb treatment. She doesn't like anyone's hands except DS', but will tolerate the comb from any of us. She was super-matted and shaved to the skin when she was first rescued, but now that she's been introduced to the comb and a loving home, she is growing out mat-free. I sure hope she stays that way, 'cause that coat of hers is going to be GORGEOUS ... if she lets anyone close enough for long enough to keep it nice!

Thank you!!! Very helpful!!! That’s what happened to her I’m pretty sure. Think she snuck out a couple times and maybe got burrs or pine sap that matted?? Since most of the mats on on her underside, like stomach, and a couple on the sides. Then before I knew it it was bad. 😭

I think the clippers will be good to keep it trimmed.
If they're just on her underside, try dusting them with a bit of cornstarch before you comb or brush, Don't use talc or baby powder, because she'll ingest it. Another thing to look for is a dematting comb. It looks like a little rake, with curled "talons" on the end instead of tines. The idea is to insert it along the edge or under the mat and wiggle it through to split the tangle. That makes it easier for you (and/or Princess) to get the rest of the snarl undone.

Off to the dentist shortly. This should be interesting ....
We finally made it to the orthodontist, yesterday. After four months of delays (not including the two years from her dad screwing up the insurance) DD is now FREE of the RR tracks! She has a retainer, but she's absolutely THRILLED! She says she'd forgotten how her teeth felt!

Thank you!! This is really helpful!!! I actually don’t really ever use an actual “brush” cause they don’t really work. I usually try to use an undercoat rake which seems to work well because she just has soooo much but I might try to find a good comb. I actually think I have some somewhere. I ordered some online several years ago for the dog, greyhound comb I think, but idk where they are now.

I hate to force her though because she gets so upset. :(

I was trying to work on it little by little for a while though. Like if she let me do a section or just touch it to her or whatever, I’d give her a treat and let her go, and tried not to let her go when she was struggling, but I haven’t been working on it lately. And now I really can’t because she’s super sensitive with these mats.
Does she like to be stroked? Like, down her sides? or knuckled under her chin?If she does, then try palming the comb as you stroke her sides. That way, she gets used to the feel of the comb without the tugs of mats. I also have a small, full-round curling brush. It's not a pet brush, it's a "people-brush," very stiff and only about as big around as my thumb. I started out brushing their cheeks with it, like I was stroking them with my finger. Now, all I have to do is hold it upright and my cats all scratch their chins & cheeks against it, like they're marking a wall.
