Weird because I’ve seen them sleeping standing up numerous times.
Ours will semi-doze or zone out on the hoof, but real down-time - night-time sleeping, is always in the classic bovine "chest on the ground" tuck position. If you see them dozing while standing, watch their throats for signs of cud going up and back. If they're chewing, they're not truly sleeping - they're in "The Zone!"

This was taken years ago, but remains one of my favorite fair memories. About ten minutes after this photo was taken, BOTH of these young ladies were out like the proverbial light ... in pretty much the same positions you see here! Dairy Day at the County Fair is ALWAYS exhausting!

She is SO flippin' CUTE! How big is she? She looks really tiny, like our KoHana.
'Hana is a feral rescue, and she's so much smaller than our other cats that it's almost comical. Our largest, George, is a BIG boy! He weighs in at 19.4 pounds, but the vet says that only about a pond of that is fat. Teddy is as long and tall as George, but sleek & slender, like a pole-vaulter. We don't know how big Poe will get. He's a feral rescue, too, but you'd never know it to see him, now. He's as people oriented as they come! He's not a year old, yet. We thought he was nearly full grown, but now that he's finally getting good food on a regular basis. he's growing like a proverbial weed.
Georgie is a massive pile of glossy black, Teddy is a classic brown tabby with a coat like satin. Poe and Hana are long haired mixes - Poe looks black until you put him next to George, and KoHana is the spitting image of your girl - gun-metal gray with a bib and white feet!
They sound amazing!!! :love

I think Luna is only like 9 pounds, plus or minus a few ounces, so pretty small haha probably even smaller without all the fur. 😂🤣

*sigh* :love:love
I miss the fair. I showed cattle as a kid at our large county fair and it holds some of the very best memories from growing up. Back then we were allowed to sleep overnight in the barns with our animals. In the tack stall of course, but so many of us would snuggle with our critters like that.

@MROO , it's never too late! There are a fair number of people doing oxen in the north-east, and here we have the MidWest Ox Drovers Association, which has members from all over. Sadly, our annual gathering (next weekend) has been canceled this year, like so many other things.
That team weighed in at 2800 pounds each, by the way!
Mary
