Last week I went ahead and bought two months worth of chicken feed. Just so I have it in case of an emergency. I have a large flock so feeding them is going to be a challenge if the stores close. Fortunately I'm really the only one that buys the specific feed I use, so I can buy a lot of it and I'm not causing shortages for anyone else.

There are no cases in my county (officially). I'm currently on paid leave from work (I work at a Library, which is closed for the duration of the pandemic). The local stores are mostly sold out of non perishables and of course there is no TP to be found.

I have a friend who is a nurse at a local hospital. She says they only have 2-3 empty beds in the entire hospital (and thats without any confirmed Corona cases!), and the nurses don't have adequate protective gear. Pretty scary stuff.

The local hospitals are out of masks... I'm guessing in large part due to the sheer volume needed / being used by doctors / nurses, but I'm also guessing in part due to people buying them up (like TP).

All the legit sources I've read say they aren't needed for the general healthy population (for a variety of reasons), so that makes me wonder if a lot of people have them that don't need them, and keeping them from people / situations where they are needed?

I've seen friends posting online saying they have some of the N95 (or whatever) masks from years ago that they are offering up to nurses and dr's if needed. I think that's cool.

With MREs and food of that nature, I would keep even if it is expired as a worse resort. I wouldn’t eat it only if I was hungry but I would if I would be on the point of starving if I had nothing else to eat and I was skin and bones.

I have begun rationing my dish soap and using it like my parents did when I was a kid. I fill a bowl with hot water and squirt some soap and use that watered down to do a whole load of dishes. Not really sure why I didn’t do this before since I grew up like that. (Before I would just put a quarter size drop in the sponge and wash as many dishes as I could then add more if I didn’t think it was making enough bubbles).

Ridiculous that this has to be done.
Just ridiculous.

That's good to hear that people are donating theirs! I have one that I use for cleaning the chicken coop, lol. I have some replacement filters though and I'm seriously trying to figure out how I could sew a few masks that would take these filters...

Do you remember what the standard was, CluckNDoodle?

I also have a huge stash of fabric. I'm sure I can work out a design -- it's incredibly simple -- but would it need to be 2 layers of fabric? Would some batting trap additional virus? Or would it make breathing through the layers more difficult?

I need masks to change my bandage on my Hickman line that gives me IV meds 24/7 and I can't even get them. Most of the masks are actually made in China unlike TP. People who are hoarding them are disgusting to me because they've already said they won't help the general public. There are people who truly need them... Doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and patients with lines like mine.
