Duh... I ordered the mini one LOL. I was in such a panic to get one since the air here is getting worse by the hour that I ordered too quickly. We have a sick chick in our sunroom that is covered in ash and the air quality isn't helping her. I got the mini, although I'm sure it will be better than nothing. I'll just need to port it around to whatever room we happen to be sitting in. Sorry about that!

LOL that's something I have done

I mean, they're still not taking down certain hate-group avatars in the name of "both sides", so there's only so far that rule extends. 9_9;
If an avatar offends you, you can block that person, if you know how. From what I understand, it's not difficult to do. Might be worth it to you for your own peace of mind.

MROO, it would be much better if BYC took action against hate groups instead of letting them on their website.

Ultimately there's no amount of self-management that will keep people safe from those sorts of groups. It requires genuine authority to do so. Allowing them to sit idly by and continue to grow only benefits oppressors.

It's not a medical condition. It's a symptom - like "headache" or "sneezing". It's not legal to use as an ADA exemption.

Given that many people have been beaten or killed for asking people to wear masks carrying a gun in that way is 100% a threat. Threatening to kill people so you can put their lives at risk is atrocious. :T

Hypercapnia... it sounds familiar. I'll have to look that one up....
Medical conditions fascinate me.
Yes, it was a strange thing. I was diagnosed in college while participating in a Strength and Conditioning Weight Lifting Study. Never had an issue with it for 40 ish years and the mask thing brought it out. Never had a job where I had to wear a mask or breathe CO2 and with hypercapnia, CO2 is your enemy.

My MD has determined it to meet the criteria for an ADA disability.

Anyway, I've also learned that the same people who get hacked off at someone for not wearing a mask are the same people who invade others space in their quest to get them to wear a mask when the nonmask wearer is keeping more than adequate distance from others...not necessarily because of COVID but because he generally dislikes most people! :frow

Maybe no one reported it. They said they couldn't look over everything with out help
Y'know, I'm not trying to start or feed an argument, but at some point, we have to be responsible for ourselves. We can't expect our Admins to catch everything. This is, after all, a chicken forum. If our Admins have to spend all their time chasing down things that may offend someone, there won't be anyone taking care of the site. The best we can do is report things as we see them and hope that somone else sees the validity of our opinion. If it's outweighed by someone else's opinions, then we need to adjust and move on. If that means avoiding certain people or certain threads, so be it.

Sometimes, that means we have to accept that someone else's view is different from ours. The way I understand it, it is not against BYC's rules to have a different opinion than someone else - however strong that opinion may be and however much we agree or disagree with it. What's not acceptible is openly arguing with, attacking and/or passing (or openly implying) judgment on someone for it. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Tolerance is not a two way street. It's a busy highway, with many intersections, and many, many peole careening headlong along it. It takes everyone for anyone to travel it safely!

I mean, that's great and all, until they're part of a group that literally threatens your life on a semi-regular basis? Then what?

Like if you're a jew or black, is it your responsibility to just politely avoid white supremacists?

Like, genuine concern here - where is the limit for "Take care of yourself" vs "This is too big for me to handle".

Do you avoid whole websites or communities if the people in charge don't value your experiences? Because a lot of people do....

And, if you want to try to make them better because options are limited how do you do that if not publicly?

Thanks! And thanks for your kind words. Sorry that you had to deal with fires and asthma :( We might need to get some air purifiers because we live in an old house and even with the windows closed there's ash and dust everywhere.

The blood red skies, ash coming down like snow, and smoky air is really rough. I've been checking on the chickens and chicks all day. I noticed yesterday that there's a hawk cruising over the area where they free range (which, luckily, is a small orchard, so plenty of cover), so I've been keeping my eye on them anyway. One of the many lovely/positive things about the pandemic is being home way more than usual, spending time outdoors, and hanging with the chickens. Chicken therapy is real lol!
I had friends dealing with the Camp Fire. They didn't have to evacuate (thank heavens!) but they had a lot of ash. They ended up hanging bedsheets inside the windows and doors and keeping them wet with a spray bottle of water. Except for having to take them down to rinse, frequently (when the ash clogged them, they weren't as effective) they were easy to maintain and made significant difference on the amout of ash in the house and coop. She couldn't use them in the stable because her horse kept pulling them down. Apparently sheets, even small ones, are fun playtoys!
