Wow. Too close for comfort . Im sorry that there has been flack coming your way about the whole predator thing. People dont get it. They really dont. It seems like people either believe that predators should never be killed because they were here first or people believe every predator should be killed on sight. My feeling is that a respectful predator gets to live but once that predator turns to face me and holds it ground in my presence its dead. I dont trust coyotes at all and never take my eye off them when their present. There are too many incidents around here of unprovoked attacks by healthy non rabid coyotes on humans.

Some of us do get it. We are on your side. Hope you know that

Exactly. Many many coyotes in urban areas especially have lost their fear of Man, and they have become brazen. Why kill a deer when fido is tied out? Also you have to remember coyotes are predators, predators kills the young and weak, a toddler or small child is prey.

Here is some more evidence. If this still isn't enough, I would be happy to provide more. ( I know, I was lazy and only posted CNN articles, rather than a variety of sources.

The
point is, if you really look at the news, any news you will see that coyotes attacking children is very common; not just a single rabid animal, but a predator that is attacking what they percieve as weaker prey - our children. I do believe in live and let live, however I will protect my animals, my family, and my property as I see fit, even if I have to use lethal means.

i personally enjoy watching coyotes and other predators when not on my property when they get on my property close enough to kill my chickens or other animals. even though i have permission(neigbors would pay me to) i dont shoot the coyotes unless they are a threat (im not going to lie i do like to shoot them for sport sometimes just becouse they are a challenge they are very cunning)

as for the luring a dog to the pack here in ohio they will send in a female that is in heat to luer in and kill male dogs it is why we only get female dogs(that and 1 male dog we had like to form a conga line with my dads friends kid)

I am reopening this thread since now, maybe folks had a chance to cool off and breathe. I strongly encourage some folks who have made their dissenting opinions abundantly clear to move on so that the person who started the thread isn't being punished by having it locked again. For a reminder, here are the rules for Predators & Pests, yet again:

Carry on.

Goodness, when did we go from coyotes to wolves? That's a whole new ball game there. Wolves are in a whole different leage than coyotes.

Yes, you can keep your wolves. I'll take my coyotes over them any day. Beautiful animals, but I don't want them in my backyard! Or next to the house, either! As for your coyotes, at least you can get rid of them. I don't know about wolves - are they federally protected, or just in certain places? I'm just curious.

I don't recall who mentioned it here on BYC recently, but the person stated that the coyotoes , i think they said Maine were big and indeed part wolf..!

There was actually a National Geographic article on the subject a few months ago - in the Northeast, coyote-wolf hybrids are becoming more common.

Around here in NC, anyway, coyotes are definitely getting braver.
