Stocked up on some london broils today to make jerky nearer to christmas. I use that Lawry's steak n chop sauce and it comes out perfect everytime. The jerky will go in my chriostmas baskets with the items I've canned. I plan to roast some pecans too..been shelling those lately and freezing them too.

SE, can I be added to your Christmas list? I love jerky. Well, pecans, too. But especially jerky. We usually do deer jerky. But no hunters this year...

You bet!! But that means you have to help me with the making too...so you'll be here saturday right?! That would be fun actually!!! .... so many people around here hunt deer and make the venison sausage and jerky...my family loves all the venison products, I can't seem to get them down without gagging myself..weird I know but can't help it...sooooo, only beef jerky from this house, lol!! I use the london broils, slice them real thin and soak them overnight in the lawry's steak and chop marinade and then put the strips on my dehydrator for 4 or 5 hours and done..very, very easy and every one fights over it. The marinade is really popular..probably for "steak and chops" lol!!! so if you are planning to use it and you find some, better buy two bottles..it is rarely on the shelves!! I'll make my 6 london broil's worth of jerky with that and bag it in Christmas bags from the Dollar Tree and put it in my gift baskets. The pecans are easy too..just salt and butter and pecans, mix in a bowl then spread on a cookie sheet in the oven until crunchy..careful not to scorch...seal in something air tight..nice gift in the south. But yeah Carrie..I am likeing the apricot brandy idea too..that or some home made kahlua would be perfect in my gift baskets.....anyone know how to make home made kahlua???!!! Ever had a white russian??! Now Hats, THAT is yummy!!! lol!!!

Very yummy, but too many of those and I'd be round enough to roll out to the coops. LOL;)

Here is a spiced/sweet nut recipe I made last year and then put into little jars for gifts. I just used the reg. sugar.
Sweet Spiced Walnuts

16oz bag walnuts
1/4C maple syrup
1/4tsp vanilla extract
2tsp cinnamon
2Tb sugar (I recommend turbanado to make them sort of sparkly)

-Preheat oven to 350.

-Mix walnuts and maple syrup together well in a large bowl. Add vanilla and cinnamon and mix well.

-Pour nuts onto a foil lined, or silicone mat lined cookie sheet (I recommend a silpat, it makes it easier to get the nut off the sheet at the end). Sprinkle sugar over the top of the nuts and stir a little on the sheet.

-Bake for 15-20 minutes, checking on them and stirring every 5 minutes so they don't burn.

-When they're done to your liking, remove from oven and remove the liner from the pan carefully so as not to burn yourself or spill the nuts. Allow the nuts to cool on the liner for about 5 to 10 minutes before removing them to a plate or a cooled cookie sheet to allow them to cool the rest of the way.

-When cooled store in an airtight container.

I cannot tell you how good these were..yum I even added some ground red pepper to a batch...not much just enough to give them a kick. Guys loved them!
Of course there is always the pretzel rods dipped into melting chocolate and then into sprinkles, coconut, etc. I have a neighbor who keeps telling me he can't wait till Dec. so he can receive them again. ha Do you think that was a direct hint?

Don't have a kaluah? recipe but I do make Irish Cream

Irish Cream
1/2C. honey
1C. heavy Cream
1.5C.whiskey (more or less, to your tastes)
1/2t. instant coffee

Mix together, store in fridge, shake well before using.

I also make sugared nuts

Almonds(2 1/2C.)
sugar(1C.)
water(1/4-1/2C.)
cinnamon
vanilla

Soak almonds in mixture 30 min. bake, stirring often 30min.

This home made Kahlua is really good, right now is perfect timing to make for gifts. Make sure you read all the people comments, they really help with others results and what works better.
Rather than typing out the recipe I will send you to the link and you can print it off there like I did.

Its a little late to make the home made vanilla but here is what I do I put mid to good grade vodka in a bottle then add 6-10 whole vanilla beans, splitting a few for the seed to fall into the alcohol. Stick in a dark cool spot and shake every week for about 4 months. Never expires, I add new alcohol and a few pods when needed, I have been using the same bottle for at least 8 years maybe longer

These are really well received gifts
