I always give some warning when I am coming to spend time with our chicks/chickens.
For the girls (our 8 TSC pullets) I softly call them "Hey girls. Hey girls." In the morning I hear excited clucking and other sporadic noises from the roost in their coop as soon as they hear me.
The Sebrights and leghorns are still chicks and only 3 weeks or so old. I call them the chicklets. It is the same though. I call enough so that they aren't startled when I open the door to the garage loft where they stay. Now when they hear me they start getting excited because I am the bearer of treats and stuff.
