Hi, I am a crazy chicken lady here as well. I currently have 7 coops and over 50 birds, well... accordion got chicken math anyway. We built our first coop, and have used prefab coops since then.

I know that many people don't like the prefab coops, but for me they have held up wonderfully and provide great homes for my girls. Here is a pic of my current chicken yard.
Your chicken yard looks wonderful! And you have leaves on the trees! Maybe the weather in TN is easier on the prefab coops than here in Vermont.

What are those black chickens with the Polish (?) heads? Cool!

I don't think it sounds crazy. Probably just have to make sure there's an easy way to clean it so it doesn't stink up the house.

Absolutely. I have been thinking about clean-out options, for sure. The room has a beautiful floor, but of course, that will be taken out when we porchify it back to its original state.

Thank you so much!! We get pretty much everything weather wise here in East Tennessee. Snow and ice in the winter then severe weather and humidity in the summer. Through it all my prefab coops have held up well. I take really good care of them though making sure they have weather resistant paint and water seal and so forth.

The chicken you I think you are referring to in the photo are white crested polishes. I There are also cochins and silkies in the pic as well. I have quite a few breeds.

Where your partner wants to put the coops sounds like a really cool idea. Post pics when you get it done, I am really interested to see it.

that is so small for 50 birds! do they actually get locked in the coop at night? I cant imagine how you fit them all in the coop part of the pre fabs.

No, they all have their own coops. Henwarts has 6 residents
The Kuntry Klucker (my largest coop) has 20 residents
The TARDIS has 7 residents
And The Bantam Botique has 8
I have a broody silkie raising a brood of 7 they too will have their own coop.

So to answer your question, no, they are not all crammed in one coop. I have more of a "coop-hood" a neighborhood of coops.
