thanks so much. That makes since. I breed my lavender ameraucana roo to my rhode island white hens and those had black feathers here and there. I wonder why. Should all black be void or just in the tails and wings.

The Lavender Ameraucana roo is based on Extended Black with recessive lavender making him look self lavender(solid lavender body), your RIW female is wheaten Based and Dominant white, when you make this cross you will ber E/eWh I/i+ birds, and since Dominant white is not completely dominant, meaning is a leaky gene(will leak gold and black feathers) you had a mostly white bird with some black leaking...

does that makes any sence? or maybe Tim will explaint it better, he is a better Teacher after all

lol I believe a lot of things you say, just not the things where I have opposite proof running around in front of me. Lol.

since I have yours and tims attention do you guys know why lavender americanas get the straw colored leakage in their wings and back. Here's one of the crosses to dominant white showing what I mean, he has a lot.

That is correct, they are white leghorn x California Grey cross so heterozygous for dominant white

Because Extended black in its heterozygous form can also be leaky..! meaning it will not fully melanize the entire bird and will show gold thru..

Help me understand why you would want to make a bantam CCL. My CCL are already tiny compared to other breeds so much that they barely qualify as a dual purpose breed. I actually would like to see the size increased, maybe to the size of a Bielefelder.

Granted today's Leghorns and Rocks are not even close to the birds of the past. I firmly believe that the CCL are dual-purpose, not just layers. Because, IMO, if they cannot be used as dual-purpose, they will be limited in their appeal. Disposing of male chicks may be part of the operation of a large commercial industry, but it will not work for the small backyard poultry keeper that needs their chickens to be dual-purpose.

I will work to increase their size as part of my breeding program.
