Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Are those your babies @ChicKat ? They sure are cute!!! In the pics above the 3 chicks look different what are we looking at for the autosexing?

Looks like you are having a great hatch @Junibutt lots of babies! Are you noticing lots of hybrid vigor?
I sent the eggs. Autosexing = boys white head blotch, female - dorsal stripes...... I think that box also got lost in the mail for an extra day -- so hats off to Junibutt for getting them to hatch.

I have a batch of Cream Legbar mixes due to hatch, well yesterday... But the incubator was unfortunately running too cool and I didn't notice until day 16

I tossed 10 quiters due to temp issues but the other 25 are doing ok after the temp was adjusted, just running a little behind. I candled last night day 21 and many have internally pipped so maybe today or tomorrow.

The crosses are all Cream Legbar male over Silver Laced Cochin, Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Blue Copper Marans, Blue Olive Egger, and a Barred Rock x Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. The offspring should be fun and cute for sure. If any hatch I will be sure to post lots of pictures.

So the Cross of the Male CL and the female CLxIsbar female will create auto sexed chicks? Interesting.

Good luck - it will be interesting to see what they look like.

Double barred males and single barred females one and all. At a minimum - the males should all have head splotches...right folks who delve deeply into these things? :O)

Hmmm that is interesting! SO my Barred Rock x Wyandotte hen (she is barred) covered by my Cream Legbar male should be auto sexed? I thought there were other genetics at play for autosexing besides just the barring isn't the wild type gene also involved?

I know my CL x SLC is sex linked and I think my CL x Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben is sex linked (both Red Sexlinks) That will be interesting to have another sexable cross.

Yes, absolutely the hybrid ones are the ones jumping around everywhere and bothering everyone. lol!

I always have my disclaimer first. No expertise in genetics, so my dumb question: Are these autosexing or sex-linked? What do you want to name this breed if it does turn out to be autosexing? The chicks are so adorable and look so much like bantees that I would say there would be a lot of interest in an autosexing bantee breed that lays a green egg if it hold true.

To continue the discussion, @ChicKat I am wondering if the boys look different because "blue" genetics of the ISBAR may be at play?

Good to know you were able to salvage your hatch. Looking forward to the pics on the HAL thread.

Okay, now you guys have me wondering if I am mistaken..... the E-Locus of the Isbar isn't wild-type -- so it wouldn't work the same way for these as it does for CLs. I have heard that there are some strains of BPR that can be sexed by head spots...have any of you?

If it had been that easy -- Silverudd probably would have accomplished it before he died. -- I know for sure that they will be crested, lay green eggs, or bluish green, and probably a lot of them, and they will have two barring genes in the male --one from mom and one from dad -- and one barring gene in the female - one from dad. and of course females only have one ....
