BBS Sizzles/Silkies are a project here, both show bbs and a non-approved color birchen. OMG there I go Sizzles are a new breed... and I'm going for an not previously approved color... darn.
Delawares are the primary project here. Dual purpose heritage birds.
The occassional sizzle/delaware is just going to make me giggle and be terribly obvious and be sold as pets.
I don't have the chutzpah (sp) to decide that there are all the breeds that there need to be. That's silly. What people desire and expect and need change.
I sell a lot of silly banties to people who love them for what they are, silly pets, good broodies.
I have also some Rock hens, a Maran's hen, and here and there will add GCMs and more BBS Rocks.
Because I like COLOR especially Crele. And I am working on a meat primary breed pen, hence Marans and Dels and Rocks. Which when I'm done would yield... a different breed wouldn't it?
Accepting what WAS is fine if you're a stick in the mud.
But Marans are new here and offer new opportunities for their development and new meat oriented breed development (gasp) that's not cornish based.
Nothing wrong with it.
Dels and marans also offer a different, very different group of possiblities for sex-links, with very different potential outcomes. Also good.
Just because something has been done for 100 years doesn't mean it's the only way to do it.
I like birchen and blue birchen, I like sizzles - tada, black birchen and blue birchen sizzles.
I'm interested in the meat qualities of marans and delawares as well as the dual purpose nature of both.
Gasp - they're not the well established "been done" breeds in the US either.
I'm PLEASED so far with the laying of the Delawares, size and color of even pullet eggs is nice, we'll see what winter brings.
The rocks I am keeping aren't common either - Blue/Black/Splash and a partridge rock.
Sorry there's too much potential interest to new colors and breeds, and the new breeds offer potential betterment of old 'standard' breeds.
Freeze time in your own yard if you like. I want to see what's out there and what can be done.
