Crochet "Chat"

To each his/her own.

You didn't ask but I learned in my 20's. First to knit and then crochet. It isn't easy for me since I have "man" (fat) fingers. Women can get smaller stitches.

You can pretty much use many mediums to knit or crochet. Anything stringy.

I've also done Macrame'. I haven't done it in years since it's gone out fo style. Seems to me some folks aren't patient enough and want things now, so they buy them made in China. Some folks are just to lazy.

Has anyone seen the Practical Poultry magazine? TSC has switched vendors and now doesn't have it. To subscribe is $81 a year.

Guess I just assumed you didn't have an interest. I do like the hook knitting though. I am absolutely going to learn it. I will have to tape an eye on a hook. I could not find any at joanns today. Shouldn't be to hard to figure out.

Oh god I have man hands. Big ole fat hands along with everything else on my person. I have trouble playing the piano with my hands they are so large. I cannot wear womans gloves. Does not affect my crafts though. My eyesight bothers me the most. My fingers are short as well as fat. I wear a size 10 wedding ring. My feet are worse. ROFL. I hide them in long jeans. I always wear black shoes. Only flats never heels. On an good note I have lost 30 pounds in the last two months and have another 40 to go. I started at 205 pounds. Long gd road. Maybe my porky fingers will get a little thinner. I used to wear a size 8 ring. That is still large.

I love macrame planters and belts. I was never very good at it. I can knit up heads to beat hell but that is about all I can do with twine. I used to do that for a living...knitting lobster heads. They do not so that anymore. They are all machine made and the traps are wire. Sad really, a time gone by.

This is a primitive trap. We made square traps. A lot easier and they would fish better. But the idea is the same.

That's exactly what I was buying. At TSC it's $8.25 and issue. I wonder why these are so much cheaper. I will be subscribing.

I didn't realize they're "digital" and I'd rather have the hard copy. I don't have a lap top and can't carry digital copies around with me.

Is that what you call an afghan hook? A very long crochet hook?

The Knook is different from an afghan hook. It is a regular size crochet hook with a hole in the end that you thread a long string through. The string holds your stitches like the 2nd knitting needle holds stitches. The Knook makes actual knit stitches, not like crochenit or afghan stitch where it just looks a lot like knit.

I used the Knook to make these letter washcloths...they are made up of actual knit and purl stitches and look just like knit. There are some good videos on YouTube that show different knooking techniques. I like the YouTube videos better than the ones on the Leisure Arts website because the Leisure Arts purl stitch is just awkward. If you are on Ravelry there is a whole forum dedicated to knooking. I like to think of it as the crocheter's way to knit!

Me neither.

Is it easier than knitting with two needles?

It is for me at least, since I just can't get the hang of knitting. It is basically just like crocheting (hold yarn in one hand and hook in the other) except that you have to stop at the end of every row to pull part of the cord out of the stitches. I have actually knooked "in the round", too, not just rows back and forth. I made a baby hat. It has been awhile since I have knooked so I don't remember exactly how the stitches are made, but if you just search "knooking a knit stitch" and "knooking a purl stitch" on YouTube, there are some good tutorials out there.
