Crochet "Chat"

I think all of us should post pics of our yarn stash LOL that would be fun to see
It would be fun and possibly embarrassing. I'm glad I'm 3000 miles from home and can't do it. On the other hand, since I don't have my stash with me, I''m buying more.

Speckledhen-Great find. Thank you for letting us see.

I never really learned. I was idly playing with a piece of string, wrapping it around a finger and pulling it through. I'd made a chain and realized I was crocheting
wonderful stories on getting started! I remember being at grammy's house and crocheting, we had just gotten back from collecting shells at the bay, so there i sit trying to figure out a granny square and look over and there are crabs in those shells walking around the table!LOL!

yarn stash- gonna have to hit up some thrift stores and ebay...:)

HAUL ALERT! HAUL ALERT!

First bunch was at BIG LOTS, of all places. Only $2 per skein for Premier Dream yarn, then it was our 20% off day! Plus a 4.25 mm hook with wooden handle, only one they had. Even Walmart doesn't carry that type around here.

'

Next stop was at my flea market quilt shop in Murphy, NC, last place I expected to find yarn! I asked the owner, Janet, what all the yarn was for in the Full size comforter plastic zip bag. Some man had just come in 30 minutes before I did and donated it to her from his grandmother's estate. She didn't know much about yarn and I told her what yarn sold for at Walmart these days and what she had in the bag. She was going to either donate the yarn to the thrift store that supported the women's shelter or sell it and donate the money to the shelter. My DH told her it might be easier to just sell the whole bag as is.

Some is really old Red Heart, some Wintuck, Natura from Caron, some brands I'd never heard of like Sandra Unger and Pingouin Artifice, some very old labels on it, etc, etc.Gosh, one even had a Woolworth's label on it and one had a Zayre's label, if you can remember them! I bought the entire bag for just $15! Some was a bit musty from being stored, but just needs to air out, some full skeins, some partials, all kinds of colors, mostly basic acrylic, but some is of a pricier nature. Every color you can imagine is in there, I'd say, and probably 50 full skeins and numerous partials and little balls of miscellaneous stuff.

wow that is great, when my great aunt died she left me all her yarn but most of it is gone now. i might take a pic later to post but there is not very much any more. there is some really old stuff though.

Hey Crochet Friends~ I haven't posted in forever! I have many pages to catch up on. Glad to see there are some other yarn a-holic hoarders out there besides me. Here's an old pic of my loot I took after organizing it to take down to the basement. Pretty embarrassing! I'm sure I have more stash than what is posted in this pic. I would love to clean up my messy office and make it into an office/craft room.

No I personally wouldn't rabbit fur is different then wool type fiber and you need a lot of it for carding etc. to spin into yarn. And if the rabbit fur is not exceptional it is useless, unlike sheep wool mats can be carded out, rabbit is more delicate and it needs to be pristine even before carding. Also length/stipple in fur and wool is very important and I find rabbit a pain to card, this is just me though. I raise meat rabbits just for the meat and I find that easy
Angora should not be carded!! That's why it is a huge pain when you try. If you are blending it then treat it like silk. For 100% just grab it and spin. The fiber off of my guys is plucked and spin right off the rabbit. Or you can shear it most people prefer to blend sheared.

I just ordered a yarn winder should be here Wednesday. I am going to wind everything into balls and then put it into labeled small clear totes. I'll post a picture of the disaster when I start sorting everything into color groups. I am scared we might be buried alive in yarn.

I am wanting to get everything labeled in order so I'll I have to do is look in the attic and I can see what I have. I am wondering if I should put a small cotton ball with lavender on it in each box to keep moths and musty smells out. My goal is to get this all done before I start seeds. If I can do that I will let myself get a spinning wheel.

Ijust got a yarn winder I like it but it doesn't wind large skeins. I think I'll try adding a card board base over the original base and see if makes it hold all yarn for the biggerskeins

The flower squares I'm working on for the flower swap. I love how they are turning out. And learned a new stitch set to boot, the alligator stitch.

It is my favorite kind, lookes alot more complicated then it really is.
