Crochet "Chat"

I love JoAnn for that reason! Their employees are always telling you about coupons or other ways to save money, and there's not the sigh and eye rolling you get with using coupons at some places.

But.....it's a bad, bad store. Yarn, fabric and pretty pretty scrapbooking papers. I have to really discipline myself there, sometimes it's easier to just not go in.

I don't have one near me living up here. I have to shop them online and you can only use one coupon at a time in the shopping cart. I wait for what I want to come on sale, plus free shipping so I don't lose all the savings in the shipping. That can be a long wait. I don't buy much fabric from them because www.thousandsofbolts.com is cheaper and you always know the quality is best. With Joann online, you can't feel the fabrics and they don't always say who the manufacturer is so you can gauge the quality. I wish there was a Joann's closer than over an hour away!

I'll tell DW about the thousandsofbolts. She the sewer. Got a new machine when all this B. Cancer started. She's supposed to go and take a class but gets to tired or has appointments.

She used to work at Joanns years ago. Spent all her pay there I think. I worked there too for a bit, maintenance. Fixing things and hanging stuff. Just when they needed me. I'd like to work there again but I'm not sure they'd hire an old guy. Plus with DW and her situation Lord only knows what will happen.

Anyhow I've got this old spread that needs fixing and I thought it would be good to just go over it with quilting. Not that I could do it but it's just got a few places that are coming apart. Plus I'd have to do it by hand. At least if I wanted it to look good.

I like Joanns but they tend to have an issue with my service dog... I was told, and I quote, "You need to carry your service dog in here because... you know... fabric 'n' stuff..." which was very frustrating as it interfered with her work :/ They're getting better though. At least last time I was asked "so is that a dog that can come in stores?" so we're getting somewhere.

Joann's is like a candy store for me...

That is a shame, but keep in mind you're paving the way for those who come behind you.

The "so is that a dog that can come in stores" is one for the readers digest. Might win you $100. Which you can take to Joanns and spend.

I am a 34 year old born again farmer, started when a was in the womb and ended with my parents separation when I was around 7. Knitting and crocheting, also sewing were apart of that time. I want to get back to these arts/crafts. I am a beginner, obviously. Anyone got any basic starting points?

My mom taught me when I was around 8, I think. I did a few projects, but then didn't really pick it up again until college. Now I am starting to teach my 6 year old and have been looking everywhere for good beginner resources. I found a video at the library. I am only halfway through it and it is designed for kids, but my son picked right up on it so far. It is called "The Art of Crochet 4 Kids". I am not trying to be insulting with a kid's video, but the Amazon reviews even said it's good for beginning adults, too.

This is good to know. Might get it for the GD.

Not crochet related but joann fabrics related:

I went to Joann's to pick up another mini lantern... And I stumbled upon THIS.

400

The doors open and I was able to get the chicken out so I can fit some other plastic chickens in it. 30% off in their spring fairy garden aisle... $12.99 originally and we got it for $8 as it was 30% off and we had a coupon. I'm in love with this.
