Crockpot (slow cooker) incubator - take 2

My broody made like four humongous poops the entire time she was broody. It was so gross. I accidentally stepped in one😩
That’s why I make mine get up twice a day. Im not brave enough to face dookie that’s been fermenting inside a chicken for 5 days!

Paint pineconed down on the grass half way through eating today, silkies will truly sit on nothing...lol

Candling this morning showed 10/12 to be developing.

One I can’t see clearly into and questionable egg is well... still questionable.

Kind of hard to see the veins in the photo, but you can see a little spider in the center of the egg if you look hard enough...

taking the lid off worked for decreasing humidity. I layered another towel on top... air temperature went up, lol.

Yellow line is around when I took the lid off.

I nearly forgot to take Paint out to do her poop and chow 😅

Having a broody is such a set it and forget it thing...

Got her out at 8pm when everyone else was already on the roost, whoops.

All I can say is, is that I love that chicken! I can see she’s mixed with either silky or Polish, but what’s the other half?

I would guess that she is probably a satin which I think are half silkie and half cochin! :D
Yep! She's a satin =D
Mostly silkie with a touch of cochin.
Gets the broody genes from both sids too I bet!
She has a crest and beard, but I prefer to keep it trimmed
(I keep her leg feathers trimmed too)

Here she is with her first egg :D

She's so cute! We once bought a couple silkies and named them Olive and Shermy. We thought Ollie was a girl and Shermy was a boy. We wanted to keep them with our polishes. But then both of the little cuties ended up being boys.😏

I love it!
I plan to breed my Bootsie, Bantam Cochin X LF Buff Brahma cockerel to my SS hen!
Pics of your handsome boy please!

I’m secretly hoping that one of the d’uccle silkie mixes is a rooster... So I can have him make some babies with my satin 😬 I can’t have rooster though 🤣

He is my sweet, crazy boy! His mama is my red bantam Cochin Holly, and his father is Bo, our standard size large Buff Brahma rooster.
(Big ol' Bo was always fond of that little bantam.... poor thing🤦‍♀️)
