I'm on Day 3 of my first ever attempt at hatching and to say I'm excited is to say nothing!

So far, 5 of my 10 eggs are growing beautifully with a nice clear view of the start of the embryo. The other 5 are showing no signs of growth, though; no veins or anything have formed. At first only 2 eggs had noticeable veins when I candled at 5 AM yesterday, but at 5 PM today 3 more had formed distinct veins. Still nothing in the other 5.

With that in mind, is it possible for there to be a short period of delay between each embryo's growth? I know it's common for eggs to hatch at slightly different times so this would make sense to me. However I'm having those first-hatch worries and would hate to have only 50% viability.

Any and all help is appreciated! :)

You should see development in all of them by day 5.
Have you got a separate thermometer to double check the temperature?

That's what I've heard, so like I said I'm sure I'm getting ahead of myself! I guess I just didn't expect to see such clear veins so early, based on my research.

I have a digital thermometer/hygrometer and a standard glass thermometer that came built into the incubator. 50% humidity and temperature stays close to 37.5 at all times. Bloody thing is hard to adjust to a precise 37.5 but I've heard this shouldn't be an issue, as long as the temperature is within very close range---which mine is.

Day 3 is way too early to be jumping to any conclusions, or to be speaking of delays. You're getting ahead of yourself with excitement  Some eggs are just harder to see into as well - shell color, thickness, porosity etc. With veins so delicate at 3 days, maybe they are just hard to see. You'll know soon enough.

50% humidity seems a bit high. 30% is better. Up it to 70% for lockdown. Good luck, and have fun!

30% would kill all my eggs. Just sayin.

Instead of sticking to one set humidity candle the eggs and mark the air cell size to determine if your humidity is too high.

50% is on the high end but should not cause any issues unlike 30%. Stick to 40-50%.

I wouldn't want your eggs to have trouble hatching so be cautious going too dry!

My suspicions were unfortunately correct: Day 7 now; 5 of 10 are not fertile. Fortunately the 5 who are fertile are looking very healthy so far. :)
I've since lowered my humidity to closer to 40%, but the air cells look fantastic so I'm not too worried about it! 40% to 50% is the range I've seen most frequently recommended, so as it stands now I plan on maintaining that range. I'll keep it on the lower end, though.
