My first hatch lead to me having a single chick out of a dozen or 2 eggs. If things go bad don't give up. However you still have a day or 2 before you can say it's a bust, hang in there.

I had 19 active. I hope I don’t just get one... but yes I would try again I won’t give up.

My big mistake was opening the incubator early to take the first chick out, the rest failed because of low humidity caused the membrane to stick them them like shrink-wrap

@Tbjenkins2007 I've hatched enough eggs now that I can look at them in the face when they're still wet and see if they're likely male or female. Not 100% but way better than 50/50! Depending on what they are the fluff color will tell me. Total about 12 years of hatching, there was a break in my 20's when I didn't have chickens.

Today was the end of day 22, with 22 chicks out, 7 confirmed dead in the shell (3 of those had pipped) and 2 that weren't dead but hadn't absorbed yet and so I couldn't take them out either. They'll likely not make it, but just in case they're set up with a bump in humidity since I took the top of the shell off. I wet the membrane with warm water as well.

Significantly better than last year, when those numbers would have been 7 hatched and 22 not coming. I'll take this as a win!

Next week's hatch I'm going to set up in egg cartons for lockdown and give that a go. Maybe it'll save the ones who pip but then don't make it out from getting knocked around or whatever it is that causes them not to finish.

I’m hoping that any hatchlings will be ok in my set up, there is some room. The waiting has been such a challenge!

i just moved the EE to the brooder as he was pecking at the newly hatched chick. the other EE looks to be close behind this one and hopefully the others that have pipped will finish hatching tomorrow. they all seem to be about 12 hours after pip.

has anyone else noticed that black australorp chicks are last to hatch? with my last hatch it was last egg on day 22 and this hatch those 2 are least progress this morning. I have 2 EE and 2 BO out so far. The RIR pipped yesterday and the barred rock is pipped this morning!

actually looks like I may have lost one of my BA......it pipped at wrong end and not sure how long ago. i’m not going to risk the others to open the incubator to do anything right now so will have to wait

we pulled it out and started assisting. he’s still moving but waiting to see. the other ba is still working on his own. 3 are still in incubator drying, 1 in brooder, and 2 on heating pad waiting for me to take to brooder.
