Diabetes anyone?

i just signed up for a free one, so how do you like it? something that surprised me was there is no standardization on meters, so one brand will read different from another- so yes stick to just one

I love it. All meters have to be within 20% of a lab glucose value 95% of the time. That is the standard... Sounds pretty lax to me. And there are definitley difference in plasma meters (closest to lab values), whole blood meters (low), and wave sense meters (supposedly the most accurate). But the Onetouch, in my opinion... and it is ONLY an opinion... is by far the most accurate so that is what I use as my gold standard. The reason I use more than one meter is because the strips for the onetouch are RIDICULOUSLY expensive and I only get 100 a month on insurance. I test 6-8 times a day, so really I go through them very fast. And out of pocket is another 100 bucks for 100. I soooooo can't afford that. That is why I bought the Relion... very accurate meter, very cheap strips.. the only way to beat that combo is with the usb that allows me to hook up to computer and tranfer data without having to enter it.

I KNOW the meter they show is not the USB.. that is precisely why I was so surpirsed when I got it. LOL.. I kept looking for the pink cover, until I realized it wasnt the same meter...

But believe me, this one is way..way.. cooler..

i tried that before and couldnt get gone, then mine died so I got another one prescribed but I would have preferred the smaller one. Started taking the cinnamon again and going to get more serious about it. My tablets are 1000mg so Im going to try taking them at meals only. On the upside Im down another 2 pounds! Anyone know of a good place to get a list or simple explanation of foods to avoid, substitutions and what to eat more of. I dont have the patience to read thru pages of info. I got great help and literature when I was pregnant 9 years ago but unfortunately I didnt keep it (it was gestational at that point, came back 2 years later) and the dietitian I spoke with this time around wasnt much help. Im not sure what carb counts are best for me and how it divides up to each meal, snacks. Im kind of flying by the seat of my pants right now.

Ams because everyone is so different, you have to discover what is right for you. And the best way to do that is eat a specific carb amount, then check your bs one hour later (of your very first bite) and it should be under 140 and then check your bs 2 hours after eating and it should be under 120. Then you will discover what your carb tolerance level is. For me, I can eat 20 to 30 carbs at meals and 10 to 15 at snack AND take the cinnamon and BSD and my numbers stay perfect. In fact I skip the cinnamon if I am going to exercise cuz then I get very hypo and then rebound horrible. It is very much a trial and error kind of thing. But when you finally get it dialed in you will feel great. I can honestly say, I haven't felt this good in years. And after only 6 weeks of doing this, I am reducing the amount of cinnamon to only with meals unless my snacks inch up into the 20 carb range then I will take one (500) then too.

There are of course other ways to do this that are successful. There is the Dr. Bernstein (sp?) and Dr. Fuhrman that have great success from what I hear. I have spent the last few days pouring over both their sites, but I have personal reasons why I can't do either one. It sounds like Wifezilla does the Bernstien way of eating and highly recommends it. So... do some investigation, find a method of eating that works with your life and beliefs and needs, and give it your best shot.

I have type one diabetes. I was in the hospital for my sixth birthday, so I have had it for 22 years now. I know I don't keep track of it like I should. My Blood Sugar runs high. If it gets down below 120 or so I get dizzy. I am lucky that I haven't been hospitalized for my diabetes at all. I also don't get infections and heal quickly. I have been trying to take better care of it. Thanks for reminding me about the cinnamon, I heard about it but forgot. The only thing I take is my insulin. I take three shots a day. I will not do the pump. I don't like the idea of it. And my uncle's girlfriend's pump malfunctioned and she died from low blood sugar.
