Oz, any news from your family? Are they all o.k? I just googled it. It looks pretty bad.

Can I add to the list?

1. a microscope, fecasol, those blacklight reactive plastic test tube shot glasses they sell in the dollar store (make great fecal flotation tubes and don't need a rack), glass slides and cover slips. If you want to know how to perform your own fecal flotations to check for internal parasites, just PM me.

2. Denagard (for the weird things like spirochetes and other resistant things)
3. Fishflox
4. Fish doxycycline
5. #6, 8& 10 feeding tubes and 10cc syringes
6. genamycin injectable (helps to have a small animal vet who doesn't care about off-label uses) for nebulizing
7. some kind of otic ointment for ear infections
8. betadine
9. vetrap
10. aloe juice for rewetting shrink-wrapped membranes and for resolving impactions.
11. a probiotic supplement which contains b.subtilis because it works better than sulfa drugs for fighting and preventing cocci of all kinds (including crypto and cyclo).
12. toltrazuril (you'll have to get it from canada) works great for coccidia.
13. SMZ-TMP suspension- good for what ails ya'

My list is minimal - it was designed for the best bang for your buck for someone with limited experience and limited funds.

This is way above most people's skill grade

Oh Oz, you're such a stickler. I know you love me. But seriously, it is exhaustive. I started out with a minimal list and these are the things which I have since accumulated and use on a regular basis. It kinda makes ya want to stick to just a couple dozen chickens doesn't it? Honestly, though. I think that anybody who can see and can turn a knob is more than capable of performing and interpereting a fecal flotation. I got my microscope for $20 from ebay and my vet ordered me the slides and slip covers and fecasol. The vet charges $20 for every fecal that they run, you can do like 1000 fecal flotations for $20.

I also highly recommend having baytril, doxycycline, denagard and toltrazuril for when the sulfas dont work. Oh also, betadine or chlorhexidine for flushing wounds.

There are a lot of antibiotics that you can get without a prescription which are marketed for fish or for racing pigeons and they're exactly the same generic as a small animal vet would prescribe.

Well, Brian has helped convince me to follow through with my NPIP, Chad as well! Chad and I will be doing the blood draws hopefully before the inspector comes out, Chad says its a quicker process instead of waiting for inspector and then doing all that. I still have to figure out what level I need to test for since I want to ship live chicks and birds, so more reading next week after a much needed rest after my last pup leaves tomorrow. Any help understanding that will be appreciated!

Focus is on four breeds, I have sold ALOT off, so now my Flock will consists of......

Blue/Gold Partridge Brahma
We have 16 plus 4/6? growing out. Splash partridge are not pictured, love love them, must get pics when chaos subsides, image is from June I think.
I am not sure on what roo/s stay/go, I have two 14 month old blues, two splash roos, one 3 month old reg partridge roo, I am not sure what to call them, I hear gold or black one or the other lol. decisions decisions, but I can tell you this.... if that one blue brahma roo stands up to me again I will eat him for thanksgiving! They are much to big to mess around with thats for sure.

White faced Spanish,
I have one amazing roo and 6 hens
again he was young in the image, as was the girls, some of their combs are flopped and huge

Crested Cream Legbar (white gene roo, and a reg CCL roo,
I need to research genetics on that white gene at some point very soon)

Harmony's cutie patootie serama,
one straight roo, 3 straight hens and the rest frizzled, I have mostly frizzled hens growing out and two frizz roos. But anchor hatched out 8 and I am not sure what I will do with them, look like straights I dont have the heart to sell them and take them yet lol. first broody that hatched any and cared for them!

Input on my plans is GREATLY appreciated and READILY accepted! Opinions as well!

I just had my NPIP done. It only took about an hour to do 76 birds. The birds have to be at least 16wks old or the parents have to be on the property. Keep this in mind as I was able to fudge a few that were under 16mo that came from shipped eggs. My NPIP people did it all themselves, they just had me keep the birds in that morning and I grabbed them out of the coop and then let them out as they tested them. It was easier than trying to chase them around. They tested for Mycoplasma, pollorum, AI and something else I can't remember. Its not something to worry about if you have healthy birds and honestly, your birds look awesome (did I mention that I want to know the moment you have eggs for sale?).

All the 3 4 months old are from our birds. I haven't incubated for some time now. And the last I have done was my brahma and serama. The CCL only started laying, as did the WFS so in the new year I hope we get some nice eggs from them and maybe the Brahma will LAY SOMETIME AGAIN BEFORE I die! lol
