Our 5-6 month old Silkie rooster named Silver is terrified of us and our older hens outside. Whenever I put him outside(He sleeps indoors right now), he will stay away from me and them while wandering the yard.
Whenever he's inside the house, I'm able to hold him on my lap without him freaking out or attacking me. He doesn't even attack our 3 dogs whenever they come sniff him.
He doesn't attack our baby chicks either. He seems more curious about them than wanting to kill them.
Sometimes when I'm outside with him, he will follow me but as soon as I turn around to see what he's doing, he'll run away from me freaking out with his wings flapping.

Is this great behavior for a cockerel?
He won't develop bad behavior later on, right?

He does t sound like he’s hit “puberty “ yet, late maturer.Id wait a few months.Right now he is showing great behavior, a rooster/cockerel who is threatened by you won’t allow you too come near him, sounds like this guy is terrified of you.

Since you're dealing with a living animal, there are no guarantees as to future behavior. I think one should always be vigilant with roosters (or any other intact male livestock). Not necessarily scared of them - just aware of their behavior.
