I'm wondering if someone's duck had a penis prolapse and they made up this myth because they didn't know what was going on with their duck it's the only possible thing I can think of to how this myth got started

In a duck book I have somewhere it said that people used to think ducks came from trees or something. It was like “Once the duck fruits had ripened, ducklings fell into the water”.
