Dixie Chicks

Looks like those marans got a little frost burnt. My wellie roo got a little less than that and we had down to 20below zero many times this winter.

yes, the rooster had frostbite. We were well down to -30 at the house multiple times. Even colder with windchill. I couldn't tell you how he keeps his birds though.

Only things I've heard that help prevent frostbite is a well ventilated coop, and using deep litter method, mine have both. Little you can do when it gets that cold. I don't know how they survive, but I guess they get used to it just like a wild animal, at least they have shelter. The worse I've seen was roos that dipped their wattles in water, ouch!

Oh my swedish rooster did that all the time when it was bitter cold! Made me worry every timeď!

There you go! I'd love to have any color of Marans except white. I like the other colors, they all look cool. Of course, I might have some anyway. One of my chicks looks like it might be a blue splash.

Y.sportsman is hatching a day early! They shouldn't start until tomorrow night! Got 4 already with tons of pips!
