Do I want to learn about genetics? Yes. Is it very intimidating and scary? Yes.

if you breed a genetically gold male to a genetically silver female you get sexlinks, cockerels will be silver and pullets will be gold. for example if you breed a gold sebright rooster to a silver sebright hen you get sexlinks.
Ooh this is interesting. Would this work on Wynadottes?

here are mine, they are the buff brahma roo in my profile photo and this dark brahma hen

I'm only on page 8 and still reading.. Genetics is interesting and exciting. I don't have enough information to really help the conversation but happy to try and participate with the hopes of expanding or deepening my understanding.

Maybe some of the resources I've found and bookmarked can be helpful..

@ChocolateMouse I like you light switch analogy a lot, thank you for sharing! :)

yes, if you breed a golden laced roo to a silver laced hen it would give you sexlinks
Well, I now know what my first breeding pair is going to be! (In ten years when I move somewhere that allows roosters XD)

Another, somewhat unrelated question: If no hens were present, could an all rooster flock be kept?

yes, it is called a bachelor flock. it does depend on the roosters but it can work
