Do not Relocate predators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To simplify the discussion, I just called the Mi wildlife dept: 517-373-1263...

It's Illegial, once you trap it you are in possession of wildlife (exception if you have a trapping liscense). If you TRANSPORT it, it's also illegial, and is another fine. However IF it is causing damage to property, humans OR livestock, you can put it down legally, in or out of hunting season. If you do not wish to dispatch it yourself you can call an exterimator.

So that does make Boyd right.

For good measure here's the website for MI.

That document (The Captive Wild Animal Order) has little if anything to do with a live-trapped predator caught on somebody's farm. It is about keeping wild animals as pets, or something to that effect.

You have not provided proof that it is illegal to trap and release predators in Michigan.

I'll quickly summerize, you can go back to both links to verify... And yes, I got confused reading the first link and had to reread.....

If you use a livetrap, you must kill the animal or release it (not relocate) so i sorta did provide proof that it is illegal... the DNR is the agency in this state that deals with game animals.

The 2nd link which is the captive wildlife order goes on to state that without proper licensing it is illegal to keep or transport live wildlife. If people want to get in double jeopardy, go ahead.

The main reason I started this post is today there were more than 1 threads locked down because people who thought anything other than catch and release was mean, improper and plain wrong. As I stated earlier either in this post or in another one thats still going, if you can do this without killing the critter, go ahead. I am all for it!!!

Animal Control will take care of the animal
An Exterminator will take care of the animal
The DNR will get involved (although i doubt they will in the case of raccoons)

*This forum is for dealing with predators and pests. Period.

*Although some ways are not considered ideal to some, it serves the purpose of removing the offending predator. If you have an idea or a helpful comment, please do reply. If it is a sarcastic comment about the disposal or capture of a predator, please keep your thoughts to yourself. We are not here to judge one another on methods or ways and means.

Just a reminder to folks offended by the killing of predators. BYC's full policy on the Predators and Pests section is found on a sticky in that section.

Boyd, yer gonna love this

About 4 yrs ago, AC in Daytona Bch found a man raising raccoons inside the city. He was doing this for food and pelt sales, which I have zero problem with. So AC seizes all of his coons and what do they do with them??????

They brought them out to the Heartland Conservatory and let them loose. My property almost abuts the conservatory

They released 27 coons in my neighborhood. For several weeks I saw so many dead coons on the road, run over. Trapped and exterminiated three here. I was just flabbergasted that the AC would do this.

I DON'T call AC, I take care of it myself.

Thank you. The laws I was able to pull up via google made no sence, so I phoned direct and asked, got referred to the legal dept, who were happy to say it was quite illegial to trap and hold for any amount of time, so if you don't plan on killing it, or calling an exterminator to kill it, don't trap it.

ChicknJ That's crazy! At least the were serving a purpose, and not out multipling. Good for you!

Could you please provide the name of the person you spoke to? I'm getting conflicting stories from the DNR.
