Yeah I get it🤣 I don’t like the idea of crate and rotate either honestly. Which is part of the reason why I have said numerous times I only want one dog. Chase will be about 9 when I get my dobie so if I do have to do a strict crate and rotate it wouldn’t be long. Optimum situation for me would be them ok with being around each other and not bothering the other dog. Then you only have to crate when you’re not there.
Ahhhh okay that makes sense. I would feel bad making them ignore each other LOL especially if they wanted to play LOL it’s one thing if they just naturally don’t want to LOL I understand your reasoning though lol

That said, you could potentially have to crate & rotate 6 years if he makes it to 15 LOL

Even just 12 is 3 years LOL

That is a long time to me personally but maybe not for you LOL

I think that if I fulfill them mentally and physically they wouldn’t mind. That’s a good point😆 I was just assuming he'd live to twelve. Three years is fine with me but six is a long time🫣

That’s good lol Brew gets walks and chewies and stuff but could never ignore another dog LOL maybe if I really worked with him LOL and yup! Exactly LOL

Also if you never allow it from the beginning they wouldn’t know what they were missing. It’s like as soon as I let chase play with another dog his doing good at ignoring the other dog goes out the window.

I sometimes worry about same sex aggression because I personally prefer female dogs and plan to just have females. I've never had an instance of same sex aggression when we had 2 females but both were calm breeds. I don't think I'll ever own 2 intense dogs, like dobies, at a time though. I'm hoping with having calm breeds+intense breed it'll be ok. Plus they'll be well trained anyway
I only keep females, and always have multiple dogs. You have to be careful to pair breeds correctly, and to be the pack leader. Some breeds are prone to jealousy, most are actually, so you have to be mindful not to favor one over another.

I have always keep only one boxer at a time because they are a breed prone to SS aggression, especially females, as well as same breed aggression. My boxers have always been the sweetest to all my other dogs. Many breeds will live happily in a pack, and many thrive. Understanding dog body language also goes a long way to cutting off stuff before it begins.

And what I’m saying isn’t for everyone. Some people want their dogs to play. Weather that be to tire them out or they have some sort of humanish idea that they are “brothers” and should love each other. It makes some people sad that their dogs don’t get along. I don’t care in the least.
Yeah it’s a risk with high strung breeds like German shepherds and dobies. Training is key in my opinion.
For me it's mostly because I am lazy and don't want to bother keeping them separate lol, I expect my dogs to get along, play sometimes, but also know not to bother eachother continuously and know when it's time to focus on me. I could never keep up with having to keep my dogs separated

Exactly how I feel LOL well, that, and I just want him to have a friend or two LOL
