Does anybody get FLACK from Family and Friends for having Chickens?

I get teased about it too....but they always want the eggs, don't they!

My family thinks its neat though and since my grandparents raised chickens I think they are kind of proud of us for doing the same (even though we do not breed them), carrying on country family traditions.

I get soooo much crap. I live in town for another two months and then off to the farm for me. But we have had chickens in suburbia for the past year and every one including the neighbors think I'm nuts, Oh well...... I love my peeps and haven't had one flipping grasshopper in my yard since I got em. Bet the neighbors can't say the same!

When I took Millie to Christmas, my cousins from my Uncle's first marriage thought I was weird for bringing Millie, but my new Aunt and her daughters who love chickens and horses thought it was normal for a chicken to come and said all kinds of nice things about Millie. (one of my cousins even asked at the dinner table - "why is there a chicken here" in a condescending tone) Little did she know that my chicks and chickens are frequent visitors to my grandmother's and that sometimes they spend the night (in a brooder that my mom set up) at my grandmother's request.

Turns out that my aunt had a wonderful bantam roo named Frank who she had raised and who would fly up and take bread from her hand. That roo went to a 4Her who needed a nice roo for her hens. (My aunt's neighbors complained about the crowing I think)

My mom's cousins thought it was funny that I had named one of my RIRs Thelma (one of my Grams sisters names) - they think that I should always have a Thelma in my flock.

As for those people, well, they just don't understand. If you can find a job that's better, then do so. You deserve better. I know my brother has changed where he worked because of people he had to work with.

When I mom [picked up my first set of chickens the guy goes to her and says. I see you like chickens huh? She says "no they are for my 20 year old son" He said "Ah the fountain of youth is in newton." I laughed when she brought them home. Now those little guys are my moms chickens

WAY ahead of you guys on the job hunt!!

When you make fun of my chickens I laugh with you...but when you make fun of my children LOOK OUT!
Some people thrive on hurting others!
