Does greenish tinged coelom fluid mean infection?

I had to host our high school's prom last year while I was trying to nurse a couple of weak chicks back to health. I was *this close* to going for just a few minutes to make sure everything was set up before leaving. But things happened: the caterer was VERY late, the DJ had trouble getting set up, the entire dance floor had to be moved, etc. When I hot home late that night, one had died, but the other made it and is still going strong. I hate having to choose between work and our flocks, but in our line of work, we've got flocks of kids depending on us. I still feel badly about the baby who passed, but I know I did that I had to do. It just sucks.

And Myrtle made it!

Yay, Myrtle!

Her crop is not moving, Carol. And now she’s pooping green water.

I gave her something between 15 and 20cc of warm plain water, and she actually did perk up for a little bit.

Unfortunately, I can feel the fluid starting to return to her abdomen. I hope she’s having some good moments. I hate to see her on a decline.

Comfort yourself with knowing you have gone all in to give Lucky every chance to grab a few more weeks or months of life. Having a failing liver means her clock is ticking down to the final moments which have to come because that's how this thing called life is.

No one gets a warranty when they're born or hatched that they're guaranteed to live the maximum number of years. It's nontheless disappointing when we have to face the final proof of how impermanent life is.

Thank you. Poor Lucky. 💔

@azygous if Lucky’s crop still has not moved at all in the morning, I think I’ll give frozen coconut oil a go. Reason being, I think the issue might be beyond her crop, like maybe in her gizzard. I saw her poop a little in the morning after the flush, but think she only got cleaned out below the blockage, if there is one. Seems to me, if it’s in the gizzard, a lubricant would be the best bet. Thoughts?

Thanks. Lucky looked pretty good this morning, but her crop was very full and is getting more firm. I assume because she still eating, but only the liquid is getting through. I gave her a lot of frozen coconut oil this morning and massaged it a bit into her crop. I actually don’t think the crop is the issue… I think it’s further down. I hope this helps her, but I won’t get back home until after they’ve gone to roost. I did leave out a bunch of baby bird formula and it looked like she was getting some. At least that way she can get some nutrients that can hopefully bypass the clog.

Mondays are always busy and we’re coming off a week off. I’d like to run up the hill at lunch and give her either coconut oil or fluids but I don’t think I can today. Depending on the situation when I get home, I might pluck her off the roost tonight and do one or the other. Please wish Lucky a good day!
