What dog breed??

I never owned a dog before I had a Rottweiler and had no issues. Rottweilers are calm dogs and observe before they react.

No matter what breed or mix, you need to be consistent when training a dog. All dogs need training and the smaller the more important to train them or you will have to deal with the small dog syndrome. There are many ways now how to train a dog and it will be good to look it up.
Rottweiler might be okay but definitely not Catahoula.

And I know a lot about training already. But OP definitely should look it up

I am thinking of getting a puppy - wondering what breed I should get?? If you have a suggestion other than what is on the poll - please speak up! As you probably noticed I'm looking for a large breed dog!

Here's what I'm looking for in a dog:

Plenty of grooming work to do
Friendly - okay with new people - NO biting
Plenty of energy
Able to be trained into a hunting/shed finding dog!

Okay - this an update after much talk:
I have ruled out German Shepherd, Huskie, and Dalmatian. Because of the biting temperament and way too much energy.
I doubt a border collie would fit as you mentioned some breeds having too much energy. We have a border collie and a corgi, both huge energy mongers but neither would hurt a chicken.

They both keep the yard free of varments and watch out for the chickens who are free-ranging.
