Heaven, The girl in the last photo, with the lacing type pattern is very nice - is she the same one from the earlier photos? I have a few like her and those are going to be my keepers this year. I just love the look. The girls in the 4th pic - the hiney shot - nice tail spread. Do you have a side view of her?

# 66 cockerel is also very nice.

I have 4 Roosters and 21 pullets i got from a local breeder, i think the Dominque is one of the best overall breeds. i just got my NPIP certification and the inspector said my Domineeckers were some of the best he'd seen. it really feels good when an outsider:D commments on your flock that way.

Thanks Gallus

Both the ladies you commented on are our only chicks we've hatched ourselves (besides three cockerels) so that's great

I'm sure I have a side photo somewhere of both those gals, but they're young yet so they haven't gone through "inspection" - they don't even have their bands on yet, but I know them by comb and feather pattern anyway.

These photos were more just for fun. An excuse to spend more time with my birds! Every female in that pen has miles and miles to go before she's a nice representative of the breed, but I'm hoping by crossing carefully, and adding in additional lines this year, we'll start having a decent looking flock in the next few years and can go from there.

The young gal with the nice tail spread unfortunately has had half her tail ripped out by the mean older hen (I got a picture of her too in this photo shoot.. the culprit outside the bars!) but I'm hoping it will grow back soon. If these two young ladies continue their growth spurt they may be two of the ones I take to Stevenson to see if the judge finds the same comments we've had for them. It's actually nice that my first show is kind of not-so-stressful... if I had star birds, then I'd have to actually worry about competing!

If the judge otherwise likes the pullet with the pretty coloring, we've still got both her sire and dam and will cross them again. Her dam is currently in the breeding pen, but there's I think 11 (have it written somewhere) hens/pullets, one cock (the sire of the pretty pullet) and one cockerel, but the pullet's dam is in the cockerel's harem so she's more likely to be bred by him... We'll be separating out into breeding trios as the spring progresses and there aren't as many frozen waterers to break every morning for poor Rhonda. For now, we're just trying to get more selection of breeding birds to deal with later on, so we can cull again on our hens without feeling like we've lost a trait.

Larry - that's awesome! WHERE ARE PICTURES?!!!???!!!

I only have 1 Dominique and it is a HE. He was thrown in with some RIR layers that I bought already laying. I kinda like him.

He should be lucky cause I just got rid of my other 2 roosters- they were barred rocks. Now he is the king of the roost-- I think he knows it in this pic:

For those of you interested in Dominiques I started an auction for some eggs today. Included in the listing is some information about the history of my strain.
