Dong Tao Chickens---OMG!

I'm guessing these birds are bred for their edible feet, since chicken feet are a delicacy in Asia. You will find chicken feet breaded and fried at better dim sum restaurants. They're also steamed and dipped in hot sauce, or boiled in soup. It's doubtful that they're bred for their appearance. They remind me of muscovy ducks.

These guys look like they were raised next to a nuclear plant!

Updated: I did some research on them. They're actually from Vietnam and are prized for their thigh meat. They're very expensive (over $2000 per bird) and their meat is only served in restaurants for the wealthy. Here's an article with more info, pics and video.

Nope.
"Their unhelpfully big feet makes the hatching process even more difficult, so breeders have to assist the hens in order to produce chicks. A new born chick takes eight months to one year to become a sellable bird of three to five kilograms."

Pretty disgusting.....reminds me of what humans can do screwing around with breeding animals, like those poor smashed face, bug eyed little dogs whose tongues don't fit into their mouths.
Agreed.

I usually don't mind selective breeding so long as the animal doesn't suffer, after all that's how we made agriculture more efficient, breeding for helpful traits, i.e larger eggs, stronger horses (not as useful today but still it served a purpose in the past), better milk production, larger harvests and more disease resistant crops. I don't think anyone would have recognized corn as its early ancestor! I just wanted to share my opinion that selective breeding isnt always negative, although I do agree this is a more shameful result of such, and those poor "toy" dogs, theyre the only rats we welcome into our homes ,though it's not their fault they're that way, I second aart

Despite this all my animals are rescues (except the chickens of course) an ungodly amount of cats and two dogs, one was kicked out because she accidentally scratched a child as the past owner failed to clip or file her nails and didn't teach her to not jump on people, we believe the other dog was abused because he cowers whenever I grab the broom to sweep or hold something like a walking stick in my hand. If I had a dollar for every time I had to console him instead of cleaning up a mess:rolleyes:

Sorry for that, that's the end of my little rant:duc

It's kinda annoying how they call the hens white instead of both the birds Wheaton so people will understand better. :th

That's what I thought. I thought they meant the mothers not the chicks have difficulty hatching stuff.

It's ashame that animals these days end up like this. No animal should have to suffer from something you can't even try to fix without them hurting.
In my mind, God gave us these birds. There is absolutely no issue with the poor birds except the abuse others have given to get them to that point.
