I don't think i ever told you guys, but i brought my duccles to a show and one of my hens got 1st and the other a 2ed, my MF roo got a 1st and was considered for Show champion!

I'm under the assumption that Mille Fleur D'uccle has got to be one of the hardest breeds to perfect. This is the ONLY breed I have, and I'm really trying hard to get some good, strong traits going, but the problem with MF d'uccle is that 90% of them come from mixed backgrounds and they don't breed true and that is aggravating. Someone posted a picture with a rooster that has a black head. Mille fleur's are not supposed to have black heads. I'm not an expert on them but I hope to someday be lol. Big goals in life...but really it seems that there's just too much careless breeding going on to get anything that stays true. I have ordered from MANY sources, eggs and babies, and the eggs I received from Julie at Gabbard Hatching Eggs produced excellent quality chickens even though the pics she originally had I found out were from someone else's birds, her stock is excellent. I'm trying to breed them to others to get chickens with the same traits. I REALLLYYYYY like the stock that Laurie, "wegotchickens" has, and she sent me eggs but my incubator screwed up and I ended up with 3 with deformed feet and had to cull, very frustrating. I'm bound and determined to get my hands on good quality stock and start making my rounds at the shows. If anyone has Mille Fleur D'uccles that are SQ, please please please send me pics and let me know as I would like to start another round of eggs, but this time my hens will be doing the incubating. Let's keep the interest in this breed going!!!!

I see you are in FL, but when i was at a show in RI, there was a breeder/judge that had very very nice duccles. I plan on calling him today and maybe purchasing a pullet, im also going to ask him if he sells hatching eggs if he does i will let you know and give you his contact information. At the fall show (which im showing at!) i will take some pictures of his birds, they will make anyone drool1

OK, apparently my hubby (Sportsterjeep) posted yesterday that I am supposed to say something.

Not sure what I can add to what he already says.

I love the d'Uccles. They are so cute and very docile. Our roo we have named Napoleon, because he acts just like him. Little guy with a HUGE attitude. He is very protective of his girls and is hilarious to watch.

Right now I am looking for hatching eggs. They auction I was waiting on here, ended early, so I didn't get them. I am looking for any kind of d'Uccle eggs. They are all so cute, I don't think I could refuse any of them. Also, they are our daughters breed, and they are just the right size for her to handle and she loves feather legged chickens and poofy faces.

I will try to get some pictures up of them tonight when I get home from work and have you guys tell me what you think. I believe the comb on Napoleon is too large, but I am not sure.

Okay so this is at everyone, how do you have your breeding birds set up? Individual Pens? Pairs, Trios, Quads, a whole heard (jk)? Im debating on how i want to set up my breeding "facilities" shall we say.

I was just outside cleaning pens and I had a thought (sometimes I have those)

In my "bachelor pen" I have two young roosters that are mixed black mottled d'uccle and LF sumatra. The phenotype of these 2 guys is all d'uccle, except that they are slightly larger, have a moderate beard, and are solid black..... very pretty. The bachelor pen will be going to the auction later this week. But if anyone is wanting a solid black d'uccle for a project ......

I can get photos if anyone is interested.

We have 5 girls and a roo. They are all in a pen together. I do think that 2 of the girls are younger, as we only get 2-3 eggs a day.

Does anyone have any idea how easy it is to get them to go broody? One of them had just hatched chicks before Gretchen brought them to us and I think it was her first time. Also, are they good mommies?
