I had rouans, and campbells before , coons got them, so now better protection. most of my hens have always laid well, I am just having a harder time with these WH and this [ older drake ] he is the only one that made it thru the attacks. and the only drake here everything I have read says 6 hens for him ,

so how is everyone's ducks doing, mine have found out they love cabbage but they will not eat it in front of me lol,

they just stare at me and then look at the cabbage then repeat. only when i walk away can i hear them quacking loudly and then look around and see half is gone lol.

Hi all!
So this was certainly not a planned adventure, but I am now the proud Mum of 6 ducklings.
How it began....
The neighboring farmer allows their flock to free range and the ducks visit our yard morning, noon and night. We learned they lay eggs in the front flower bed. However, she was sitting on the eggs. So, we decided not to disturb her and awaited the arrival of fuzzy baby duck butts.
Sadly a week into it, momma duck was attacked and I was left with fertilized eggs in the front yard.

Long story short, we built an incubator, turned eggs all day, monitored temp and awaitied the Fourth of July- as it was the projected due date! The first pip came that day.

So.... now they are a week old and I'm so glad they are here.

Today's question: Recently, after they eat, they seem to be drooling, (a saliva like phleming yuck). And some even appear to be "spitting up". It's like having babies. (The first was "born at 3am... and just as with my human babies, I don't think I've slept a wink since. Lol)

If anyone knows about this post-mealtime spit up I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks!
