I wouldn't worry to much about infection. He was in the bator right? Is your bator clean? Incubators should always been clean. Hatching eggs are very susceptible to bacteria getting into the egg, which can kill the embryo. I always wash my hands, and/or wear disposable rubber gloves. I also clean the incubator before using it.

Yes it is clean ....for a little while in the beginning it had some ick in the reservoir under the "floor" but it had clean papertowel under her but i did take the whole bottom out the other day and wash it good with dawn and really hot water! I also keep changing out papertowel whenever she gets it soiled....this morning she was moving back and forth in the bator talking to me !! AND i think it is starting to dry up ! Im gunna try to get a good pic for u so u can tell me ur opinion on how it looks!!! I also took her out this morning and put a little iodine in some warm water and used another" gauze on a stick" to wipe the area around her navel and then sprayed it with vetracin and applied ointment all the way around it!

This duckling is EXTRA special to me because with my female Anconas eggs ive only ever had 1 hatch and it passed a coupledays later but ive had lots ALMOST fully develope and hatch but they never make it to hatch....then with the last 2 and final fertile eggs 🥚 this one ACTUALLY MADE IT!!!!! And her parents are very special to me so i praying that she pulls thru this!!

Nice work! Sounds like its drying up and getting better. Since you incubator is clean I wouldn't worry about infection.

Is it still getting smaller? Thats a lot of yolk sack to be drying up. That should have been absorbed. I might do a layer of Neosporin so that it softens and can be absorbed.
