She posted that on FB a while back. Too funny!

I am not sure it is really dumbing down ( there is no such word as dumbing by the way) I mean have you ever read the newspapers from 1770's did they misspell those words or did we misspell them in the dictionary and then it became common.
P.S. The most misspelled word in the English dictionary is mispell.....OOOps I mean misspell.

What also bugs me is when people grossly misuse words or use words that don't even make sense. I watch Judge Judy a lot (don't ask, old habits die hard, lol) and I can't count how many times I will hear someone say "conversate". "Your Honor, I asked her to conversate with me about the matter......"

My own father, I love him dearly, but he is getting older and starting to mix up words. He'll insert a totally wrong word in a sentence and just change the whole meaning. One of the best examples was when a tenant of his was complaining to him about an odor coming up the pipeline and into the toilet. She was telling him how she kept dumping bleach into it to kill the smell. Well, my dad, worried that she would overdo the bleach & harm the levels of beneficial bacteria, proceeded to explain to her that if she kept dumping bleach down the toilet that she would ruin all the good orgasms.

I was standing right there when he said it and I watched as all the blood left her face. I blurted out "Organisms! He means good organisms!" but the damage was done. Sigh...I still laugh thinking about it.

The one that bothers me is "there, their and they're" being used in the wrong context.

Don't even get me going on that word. I am SO sick of trying to explain to people that it isn't a word and they stare at my blankly and insist that it is. My aforementioned father included!

A personal pet peeve of mine as well. Also getting their/they're/there confused. Oh, and spelling shortcuts intended for texting/e-chatting doesn't help the young generation either. Sorry, rant over.

We have also lowered the standards in schools to accommodate those less inclined to learn instead of setting them down and encouraging them to learn. Its sad really.

No child left behind failed sadly.
