Turned my turner on this morning, after reading the thread Who's right? "Who's wrong No one." Good info with a lot of good humor. More entertaining than reading a book. Now I must wait until tomorrow night to candle. Anyone have any updates.

I thought my orloff eggs weren't fertile, but I candled them last night and there were veins in every single one! I'm so excited! Its day 8.

However, the airsacs look pretty big. Is 40% too low?

I asked the blue team on "He Said She Said..." about the humidity, because I needed to know too. One (he has a Brinsea Octagon 20) likes 40 to 42, another 40 to 45. If you using a Styrofoam bater he said you might like 35. At 47 mine is high so I opened the vent more. I hope that works. What type of incubator are you using?

Its a sytrofoam reptile incubator, but basically its the same as one used for chicks. Reptile incubators are meant to be kept at 60-90% humidity, but mine tends to be around 40-50%. Its at 102 F, as 101 F didn't seem to be warm enough.

IDK, i really can't give you any advice. The main reason I bought a Brinsea with an auto turner was because it was easy. Set it and leave it. It does everything. I really don't have to worry or monitor anything except the amount of water and it tells me when to add more. it keeps the temp at 96.5, perfect for chicken eggs. Most of my hatches were 85% even with shipped eggs. When I bought it - I had an hour commute to work, so in 24 hours I could only monitor it for less than 5 hours during the day. That said, with your incubator you will understand a lot more about the hatching process than I will.

Did you mean 99.5?

I bought eggs last night!!! So excited!! Show/breeder quality, saw the sellers FB page and birds were gorgeous!! Ordered a dozen. She will collect this weekend and ship on Monday! This is the furthest I've done shipped. From Florida to NY! I'm worried about the heat! Did anyone on here get eggs that had already started to incubate due to the heat?? I also use a Brinsea. But I will definitely be running dry with the ambient humidity so high. I'm looking forward to joining you guys!

Candled this a.m., day 10 . I hate these dark chocolate Marans eggs, they are so hard to candle, saw one that was definitely fertile and was able to tell i had 5 eggs not fertile, broke them open and was 100% right, 2 more still unsure about, and unsure about all the olive eggs, can't see do do in them either. Redhillranchpoultry sent me 5 of 8 unfertile Marans eggs, unfortunately i already gave them a good review on ebay, because i candled on day 6 and was hopeful and optimistic. I will no longer leave ebay comment on shipped eggs until after the 10 day candling.

On the bright and sunny side, i candled the La Bresse eggs last and all 8 of them are fertile and thriving! :D :D :D. Also, of course 21 of 24 of the local mutt/mixed breed chicken eggs i bought locally for $3 a dozen are all doing good, i'm happy about that too but so sad :( about my Copper Marans being infertile. Thankful for my La Bresse thought, :D forgive me Lord for complaining about the Marans, I'm thankful for the fertile ones that remain.

I remember Bishop Jakes preaching on that one time, "be thankful for what you still got and quit complaining about what you lost". I always try to remember that.

Better some then none. I put 5 eggs under my broody and she hatched one chick, but I can't imagine what the poor thing would have done if she hadn't hatched any.
