3 week old Jonas named after the snow storm that knocked are power out for 3 days. He was one of the ones who made it with no heat lamp for a day and half till I got a generator. I'm pretty sure it's a Roo but I could be wrong. What do you experts think. Dad was a barred rock mom EE.

It is a bit early to have the butter and seasoning out waiting for the chicken. :)

I'm late joining in! I have some Ameraucanas and one backyard mix who've made it to lockdown. They're on day 19! My last hatch (first hatch) gave me early hatchers and shrink wrapped chicks so I've lowered this hatches temp and upped the lockdown humidity. We'll see how it goes!

Good luck!!!

Here is surprise cochin baby from "odd egg #4" who we woke up to (being kept company by the last fav baby to hatch) : Here are some random of of the other 14! 16 hatched out of 17 shipped eggs that made it to lockdown :th I am just floored. For those of you that are waiting still - I am thinking of you and just know that "odd egg" never showed any signs of rocking, chirping or even pipping!
Congratulations! Just wonderful.

I'm no expert so I'm not gonna guess, but they sure are cute!!!!!

I seriously warn you, that brooder is going to emit a ton of dust unless you cover it somehow.

Oh yes. Just not sure how.

I hope that by using doggy training pads the first few weeks and getting them into the coop fast I'll be able to avoid the DUST BUNNY WARS... As my husband called it last time.

The are Salmon Faverolles - they will feather out to normal salmon faverolle colors ( I sent the pics to the breeder and she said a few sometimes hatch out spotted)

There will be no dust bunnies, just layers of the finest dust you have ever seen, in every nook and cranny. I brooded 5 hatches in my living room last year, and I'm not joking, there was 1" of the finest dust in the weirdest places...

I remember my first hatch. We moved just last month and as I was cleaning the room we had them in I still found dust. That's why I'm thinking of using the pads. We had pine chips in the brooder the other times. Hoping this keeps the dust down. That and they will only be inside until feathered. Last time I had EGGS before we had them outside because our coop was squashed by a tornado. Not fun. A whole room off limits. Not this time thank you very much.

In as few words as possible ( for those wanting to know how I had such a good hatch rate on shipped eggs)

12 Fav eggs - shipped (from Florida) on a Saturday - arrived on Monday at my house.
1. Checked on arrival (after work - about 5pm) - one broken and thrown out
2. Candled - 4 saddle shaped aircells (noted with egg number in notes)
3. Put in egg carton and placed in wardrobe/cabinet with one end of carton on a book ( book about 1 inch thickness)
4. Book moved to opposite end every 12 hours(ish)
5. Put in incubator at 6am on Thursday (so they sat in the wardrobe from say 6pm Monday until 6am Thu)
6. Went thru 2.5 candling (teehee)
7. 11 went into lockdown Mon 2/1/16 at 5pm(ish) - all of them laying down, including the saddle shaped air cells
8. All hatched between 2/3 & 2/4/16

15 Cochin eggs - shipped (from Ohio) on Monday - arrived at my house on Wednesday
1. Checked on arrival (after work) - four broken and yolk throughout the box
2. Wiped yolk off remaining eggs
3. Candled - aircells not too bad amazingly
4. Same as above - same wardrobe/cabinet - same size book
5. *HERE* is the difference - they only sat 12 or 13 hours before going in the incubator
6. First candle - 2 clears & 2 blood rings (7 remaining)
7. Second candle - 1 clear (6 remaining) and 1 weird (ie something going on in there and didn't look like the others but not clear or blood ring)
8. 6 went into lockdown
9. 5 hatched between 2/3 - 2/5/16

My incubator (styrofoam, forced air and auto turner) was a PITA (pain in the...) humidity was anywhere from 20% and 44%. I tried to keep it in the 30s but it would drop during the night and when I was at work. Had two spikes up to 101.7 degrees that required adjusting, cussing, babysitting and praying! Lockdown humidity also fluctuated between 48% (gah! only once) and 61%. It would then spike during hatching and settle back around 58-60%. Both vents were removed during hatching.

I don't know if this will help any of you or not. The Fav eggs obviously did better but that might be due to better fertility rates and flock health/vitality. I will say that next time - I will let my shipped eggs sit for 36 - 48 hours (just in case that made the difference).

I really hope you are right, I can't honestly say I understand where dust comes from, hence my warning....;-]
