Easter Egger Personalities

I don't think EEs are necessarily any more friendly or skittish than other breeds. I currently have 2 EE pullets and had another EE hen previously (in avatar, foreground). They're also not supposed to be great layers but mine lay/laid well (well, the ones that started laying at least...)

The hen I used to have was a bit skittish but we got her as a started pullet so she hadn't been handled much. Of my current pullets, one is... neither skittish nor friendly, she's very neutral. The other one looks like this (forgive her ugliness, teenage chickens are never pretty):

Aptly her name is Cuddlebug (hubby insisted on naming her). Her nickname is "One Hander" because she'll let you scoop her up with one hand and just sit there with her legs dangling. She's a pretty big handful for me now but even though she doesn't quite fit she'll still just sit there like that.

She is adorbs! Very cute!

Hmm you’re probably right. I wonder then if Polish are jumpy as well?

Yes, all chickens with crests or muffs blocking part of their visual field are jumpy. Most owners of Polish do a little trim job to help

not all, all of my polish are super sweet. I think it’s rather the origin of the breed that matters... though I’m sure the blocked vision doesn’t help.

I’ve had good luck with my EEs. They’ve been pretty calm chickens. I have one that just started laying. She has always been real skittish but has calmed considerably since she started laying. She was also at the bottom of the pecking order which didn’t help. I like EEs so much that I now have three pullets in the big brooder and seven pullets and one cockerel in the small brooder. Mine have always laid green eggs. I think I had two that laid pink eggs but I’m not sure. I hope out of ten pullets I’ll get at least one blue egg from the bunch.
