Eating too much chick start

I have 10 week old chicks, but they are messy eaters with the chick start and I wanted to switch to something else, when can I get them on the layer pellets?

At age 16 or 17 weeks

Put the feeder at back height so they stretch to eat. That will prevent them from kicking so much out.
