@WVduckchickI have one that has broken through the shell and is 1/2 way out he’s been like that since yesterday afternoon. His breathing was starting to look labored when I left for work today. How much longer should I leave him if he hasn’t hatched by the time I get home at 10pm

He didn’t make it. I got home and he was dead I think he got shrink wrapped from opening the incubator for the other one because. He was stuck in the internal membrane . I didn’t want to interfere and make it worse but now I’m thinking I should have domes something... ugh hatching chickens is hard. But I had another one hatch last night and one started zipping this morning. Still have 7 eggs left. 1 I think is dead but the others were behind this batch by a few days. I found a hidden nest with (2 random duck eggs I assume she stole from my duck) that my broody chicken was laying on. I was sure she was taken by a fox for 5 days I was so upset thought she was dead until I saw her run under the neighbors shed. BRAT! Hopefully they will hatch last time I candled them they were all active looked to be around day 15/17Do you mean it actually started zipping? If so, and if it progressed part way around the shell, go ahead and pop the air cell end off. Let it push out of the rest of the egg on its own though. It may pop out in your hand.
Once they start a full zip, they should finish within an hour or so. If a zip hasn’t really been started, it may be 24 hours from the time it pipped.
Sorry about the one you lost, not your fault.
And next time you hatch, you may consider putting some rubber shelf liner down on the grid when you bump the humidity for the last 3 days. Those wire grids are so rough, they easily rip unabsorbed yolks.
Good luck!
