Hi

I have an emu egg and it started wrigging today, June 14. Its been 42 days since I put it into the incubator. I forgot that it was wiggling and I forgot to stop turning the egg. I just turned it a little bit. Im not turning the egg anymore, just waiting for it to hatch now. If I turned it a little bit, is the egg going to be okay with the chick wiggling inside? If its wiggling, should I drill a safety hole to give it oxygen? I dont know what to do!! Should I still weigh it every week until it hatches? Is it normal for it to start wiggling at day 42? I will stop turning the egg today.

Thank You!

Wiggling doesn't mean it's about to hatch. Some eggs wiggle as early as day 35. All wiggling means is that the chick is indeed alive and developing :)

Keep turning it. Even incubating at the highest recommended temperature, which is 97.5, it won't hatch until day 50. So it still has probably at least a week to go.

Hi

Thankyou for your reply! When do I stop turning the egg? Should I keep turning it until it hatches?

Thank You!

I usually either turn them until they resist it and want to rock back onto a certain side, OR I use the technique of tapping them with a metal rod to listen for when they start making a tinking kind of sound, which means the membrane has pulled away from the egg shell for draw down of the air cell. When that happens, you stop turning.

Hi

Thank You for your reply! One of my emu eggs is startinng to move alot and I stopped turning the eggs a few days ago. It has been 48 days since I put the egg in the incubator. If it does not hatch, when would I have to make a safety hole? Also, when it hatches, what do I feed it?

Thank You!

Did your emus hatch?

Did your emus hatch?
Yes! She’s 2 years old now and likes being around other animals. I had 7 eggs, 3 of them started moving but only one ended up hatching. I made safety holes on three of them but only one hatched with the safety hole. I’m not sure how to add images on here but the IG is @tytheemu
