English Shepherd as Poultry Guardian

Dogs just did there bit today. A Husky came in and tried to get at chickens penned in front yard. Honey and Lucy went after Husky quick briefly getting it down even though it was larger than either Honey or Lucy. Ben would not commit to fight. I called females off and they switched over to barking as they escorted the Husky off. Then I saw a much larger dog that looked like a Rottweiler crossed with a large hound. We started moving towards it causing it to retreat. Pups were released and they formed up with their mother getting the interlopers to move out even faster.

Glad the dogs are doing their job

Welcome back to Byc

Yes, welcome back!

Just a few days before you came back to this thread, I asked the question, "Breeds of Dogs that will Kill Weasels but not Chickens?"

Someone did suggest English Shepherds, but none of my research on them showed anything like what you taught me with this thread. It took me two days to read through all of it, but I have learned SO MUCH!

Thank you for the education, the laughs, and the poignant moments. I think there must have been times when it was very difficult to post what you've written.

My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your beloved wife. I hope that you and your children are together and doing well.

My husband and I live in Portland Oregon, a bit far from Missouri or we'd offer more support. Although you don't know us, after reading this entire thread I feel I know you a little bit, and so I'd like to help in any way I can.

I have a ton of experience tutoring children and young adults online. I have a background in engineering, so I'm very good at math -- arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and more -- and also good at teaching writing skills.

My longest tutoring job was a student who was 14 when she came here from Africa. She spoke a little French and no English. I tutored her through middle school and high school. Then she earned a scholarship and I tutored her through college. She graduated with high honors, and is now working on her Master's degree in psychology.

Several times when she needed help, I was in another state. We used our phones to take pictures or her math work and to compare solutions.

So if your kids have any trouble with school stuff, please message me because I may be able to help.

Thank you again for a great thread. I know times are very hard right now... But you have the right stuff to make it through, and you are teaching your kids how to be strong too.

I just wanted to make it clear -- this isn't a job application. I want to help just for the sake of helping.

And if you're one of those folks who's stuffy about "charity", we can always work out an exchange for possible puppies or other useful gifts/skills/education etc. at some point in the future, when my hubby and I have bought our farm. Barter is always good.

You've already offered hours of very valuable free education in all the posts of this thread you've created, for which I'm exceedingly grateful and wish to repay you in some way.

If your kids are still in Montana, the offer still stands. I can help them with their homework from anywhere they have access to email or text messaging.

Thanks for offer, but we are pulling through.

I am slow to respond as much busier now. My kids are home with me and have been for about 7 weeks. My mother came out and helped with transition for about a month. Kids are doing quite well academically now, in part because fewer distractions. I also invest 2 to 3 hours in their academics every evening after school. They are adapting faster than I am. At this point it pays to grab sleep every chance it comes up. Sleep conflicts with posting on this site.

Good to hear!

Glad your kids are adapting to online so well

Kids are not online here, we in person. Most schools here in person. Masks required, social distancing, and reductions in intermingling between grades keeping virus under control. My son's teacher already had COVID. We have have very little health issue with kids or I since this all started. A co-worker with kids in another system where no precautions are taken is sick a lot missing both school and work. My biggest issue is snow days.

Oh well that's even better. I know I at least learn better in person
