English Shepherd as Poultry Guardian

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. No words can comfort you right now, but from one stranger to another, I'm sending you my love and best wishes for you to grieve and then to move forward and survive this with and for your lovely children.

Don't forget to take care of yourself right now. It is too easy to neglect your own mental and physical health when you are in emotional shock and grief.

I am starting to adapt. Dogs having at least as much trouble as me. Over summer they were used to having two kids in house or yard all day long, and their mother when she was able to be home. That had human company. Now when I am away from house they move up on to road to east of house and watch for me all day long. I can see them from a good 1/3 mile away. The young chicken are moving with them leaving the property. Neighbors here think it is funny, so I guess OK.

The dogs sense what you probably cannot articulate. I hope you can let them give you some comfort. Dogs seem to just know when we need it.

When are the kids coming home?
Christmas at earliest. I am trying to find a way to fund a nanny as I will not be able to care for them alone. I also want them back for in person schooling since the online stuff is not as good from what I have seen. We were enrolled in a private (sectarian) school, but some of what they were learning not what I want for someone that is to be good people in our society. Public school will likely be better.

Problem developing. We had a couple killing frost over weekend. There is a lot of persimmons in trees. Fermenting process initiated. Some obvious drunk chickens yesterday. Dogs may have gotten tipsy too as they laid around a lot. Brother will be here for a couple days helping with transition.
Glad your brother will be there

I am trying to find a dog door that can be inserted into lowest panel of the overhead garage door. Prices vary markedly, but I will pay a premium for American made.

This one I am looking at now. Pricey to be sure.
