Exciting New Brinsea App Controlled Incubator - Testers Journey!

Pics
For those of you, like me, who do not have home wifi *gasp* yep, its 2024 and I dont have wifi, why am I testing a Brinsea Connect :idunno well, because I am getting a no-contract hot-spot to use for this test and future hatches! When I first saw the Brinsea Connect a few weeks ago on the Brinsea website, I though "wow, that's awesome, I would love that!" I love data 😁 but, no wifi!

So I am all about testing this thing out with a pay by the month wifi hot-spot in case there is anyone else out there, like me, who wants the data and the ability to always check in on the incubation, but doesn't have a permanent home internet solution 😃 I will be activating the hot-spot on Saturday when it arrives, then I will only have it in service during hatching months. Let's see how this goes!
It is good that you found a solution to the wi fi issue.

The Brinsea EX Connect arrived! 🎉 Thank you, Brinsea!

All set up!

We then ran to town, and while there, I checked the app. This is pretty neat! The eggs will be added on Saturday, and then I'll change the days, and the humidity will be 45%.

I have a question for you seasoned Brinsea peeps. Does this incubator, or generally, do Brinsea incubators have a "lip" to prevent the chicks from running out when opened?

My current incubator has a pretty considerable lip/barrier (around 4cm), but I still have issues with some chicks jumping out
These are recessed more than the photo shows. I just measured it, and it's about 2 1/4" or 5.175 cm. I've never had chicks get out.

Could you perhaps make a cardboard frame to put around your incubator before you take the lid off when chicks are in it?

That sounds like a good "lip" size.

I was pretty shocked the first time I saw a chick do that; did not expect that much athleticism from such a young chick. Then I realised that the chick had fallen next to the dog. A few hysterics later and the chick was untouched

Making an extra barrier with cardboard wouldn't be a bad idea at all, actually

I've never had a chick get out of the Brinsea, but I don't give them much opportunity either. You are 100% right! They are crazy athletic and have good scrambling skills as soon as they get their land legs 😁
