The stuff they make you drink for your glucose tolerance test. Mine was fruit punch flavored. Wasn't that bad, but my ob does a 2 hour test and you have to fast overnight so made me feel a lil pukey.

Had my 33 week appt today. Baby is measuring 3 weeks behind so I get to get another us to check for growth. Was 3 weeks behind a month ago too but the ultrasound showed the baby wasn't measuring behind, just down really low( considering how long I've been waddling I she's been there awhile, lol). They just want to double check I guess, which is fine with me. Don't mind having another chance to see her.

Hmmm....never heard of it....when do they do this? I'm 9 weeks this week...I think...

Is that to check for gestational diabetes?

I think they usually do it between 26 weeks and 30 weeks, it's to test for Gestational Diabetes. I will be 28 weeks when I do it. I also had to do it when we were going through fertility treatments, but that was the 4 hour one, which is horrible because you have to sit there in the waiting room for 4 hours getting your blood drawn every hour. This one is only and hour, but if the results come back high, they make you do the longer test.

Yep, it's definitely to check for gestational diabetes. I had to take it twice because my daughter was measuring so big - once at 22 weeks and again at 28 weeks. The soda itself wasn't too bad - tasted mostly like a Crush orange soda, but I always felt really nasty afterwards (probably had something to do with my blood sugar at 60 both times). I was lucky, too! I was allowed to eat first AND I only had a one hour test.

Yah, the drink isn't that Horrible, I just hate orange Soda, and it tastes like a Flat super sugary version of orange soda. But some places use Lemon Lime, some Use Cola and some use Fruit Punch. But I think most use the orange. It's best just down it, get it over with.

I did my gluc tol test two days ago at work -- I work at a hospital, so I just got my drink, then worked an hour & went back down to the lab. Today is my appt to find out how that went. I've never had a problem before, so hopefully not this time either. The drink doesn't bother me at all...I don't even feel funny afterwards. One of the other nurses on my floor said she "saw stars" after drinking hers...she had gest. diab....bummer.

Hmmmm....that's interesting. I'm hypoglycemic already....and both parents are diabetics...mom is insulin-independent and my dad just controls his with pills at this point. Diabetes doesn't run in my dad's family--his is definitely from what he was eating the last 35+ years of being married to my mom....my mom's grandma had diabetes, so it does run in my mom's family.

My mom got up to near 300lbs at one point...after having us three girls--three and four years apart, she never lost the weight with any of the pregnancies and was a stay-at-home mom while we were growing up...

So I'm kind of worried I'll end up getting gestational diabetes, too....

I am about 15-20lbs overweight (IMO) for my height but I'm still within the normal BMI according to my height. I'm 5'4" and (now) 135lbs. I never have had a sweet tooth but do have blood sugar issues...my main weakness is carbs. But since the morning sickness started, I can't really keep those down and I've lost 7lbs since Thanksgiving.

Anyway....that said--what do you all do for exercise while pregnant? I used to walk & jog, ride my horses, etc but it's below freezing and very icy out. I haven't been running since September so that's out of the question. I was thinking about getting a stationary bike or an elliptical machine to work out with when I felt good enough....

90% of my job consists of me sitting on the computer and typing--so other than my lunch hour, I'm stuck at a desk.

Walking & the ellyptical are great choices. Some source say not to let your heart rate get over 140, but when I asked my midwive for verification, she just kind of shrugged and said, "Ah, well, that has to do with avoiding overheating he body, just like not taking hot showers." You know, b/c some research says that over-heating can cause defects of some sort. The complied data is really sketchy, though.

I am a nurse on a busy Telemetry floor, and I'll tell you that my HR gets up around 130 just walking briskly up and down the halls tending to patients. It stayed up so much the other day I felt funny, so a couple of my co-workers hooked me up to Tele...even at rest my HR didn't get below 105! I didn't feel so great (my body was exhausted), but finished the shift. The next day, all was fine.

So, just some mild cardio + lots of stretching to prepare for your knees touching your ears during delivery...lol

My midwife also said I could do squats and mild upper body weight lifting -- I already lift a 35 lb 3 year old regularly.

Check with your doctor/midwife to taylor your limits to your current condition. Follow what they say...not what my midwife said...just to be safe.

I bought an exercise ball, or during labor it will be a Birthing ball, lol, and do the exercise routine from this site http://www.fitpregnancy.com/fitness/prenatal_workouts/get-on-the-ball-40728722.html?page=2 .

I love the ball, because it feels good on the hips and back, in fact yesterday my back was killing me so I go on my knee's wraped my arms around the ball, and just let my belly hang and I kind did curcular motions with the ball, it felt so good. Also sitting on it with your legs spread wide, and your feet pulled back behind you feels amazing on your hips, but wear stretchy pants, lol.

The routine from the website above seems easy, but you definately start feeling a burn

Well, I had my lil girl, Lauralyn, Friday. 3lb 14oz, and 16in long. My chickens are bigger than her, lol. I went to the hospital at about 11am because I was having cramps which I thought were from a cytoscopy I had wednesday, and had a baby by 1pm. No time for an epi and no iv pain meds because of how little she was. I got discharged today, she is still in the nicu. She is doing great though, they said she will probably just have to stay a week or two to eat and grow. Which will give me a little time to get everything ready since I have done nothing since I thought I had at least a month left.
