Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

Thanks for the list yall. From my last experience, most of that stuff was provided by the hospital like the pads and disposable undies but my own pillow is something I forgot. Tooth paste and tooth brush and hair brush were the only toiletries they didn't give me.

Last time my dr said I couldn't use tampons even with a c-section for 6 weeks. Anyone know why?

most of the post-natal bag you won't need unless you have cause to stay in hospital. pack it just in case, but leave it in the car - your partner/husband/whoever can fetch it if you need it.

unless you're having a c-section, you'll need most of it and you will have to stay if you are

I packed a ton of stuff and hardly used any of it. I didn't use any of the baby's stuff (except his go-home outfit) b/c they provided everything else. Don't forget the car seat! I used my nursing bras, but otherwise wore the undies/gowns the hospital provides (why mess up my clothes?), as well as their pads, until I was going home. Th camera is a must. I ate a few of the snacks I brought, but not very much. I had a pretty rough delivery though, so I was in a lot of pain and didn't have the mindset to do anything "fun" while I was there. Between the baby and me trying to sleep there wasn't any time to be bored.

our hospitals don't provide anything they don't have to - certainly not the clothes etc.

I have a List on word that I add to as I think of things, here is what I have (Keep in mind I will be laboring in the water)

Things to pack for Labor

Ipod with waterproof case and headphones
Robe
Slippers
A few pair of Slipper Socks
Toiletries
Birthing ball
Pillows
Change of clothes
Undies
Pads
Onesies
Diapers
Wipes
Hat
Hair ties
Booties
Comfy jammies
Swim suit top
Back Massager
Lotion

I take as little as possible with me and our hospital has everything the new baby needs so I just bring the going home outfit and a cute blanket Grandma makes.
the hospital gives you wear and toss panties.....I wouldn't wear your own unless you want to toss them out after you are done.

California has Many programs in place fro Uninsured Pregnant Women, I had no insurance, and all of the ones I looked into said Pregnancy was a pre existing condition, Kaiser even went so far as to tell me they would kick me out if I was pregnant, because I lied during application....

Medicare is one of your options, but we made too much to qualify for that.

So I am with AIM (Access for infants and Mothers). We had to make a certain amount, I think it was like $3800 - $4200 a month... but I'm not sure on that. We have to pay $55 a month, and we are covered completley by Blue Cross insurance, and they seem to cover EVERYTHING

Oh and With AIM you can even get insurance through Kaiser, I just didn't want to drive 2 hours for all my appointments and 2 hours in the car in labor does not sound fun, LOL. So I chose Blue Cross.

ACK! I applied with Kaiser! Geez, I hope I dont have any issues with them covering me.... We may have a family of 7, but we make over 10,000 a month, so we dont qualify for any gov programs. The hospital costs I think we can cover by making payments, but its the OB visits that can kill us, and alot of OBGYN's around here kinda turn up their noses at self payers and give you tons of BS about getting insurance. Its like they cant believe I dont have personal insurance (have it for the kids though), but with the bills we pay, we just couldnt afford the 700 a month for all of us to be insured. Since we are selfemployed, there is no company benefits available either. We have to run a family AND a business on our income, which is not easy, or cheap.

I thought there was some new law that went into effect that said no one can be denied coverage just because of a pre-existing condition. And if you werent preggers (or didnt know you were at application time) how can they deny coverage?

I know there was a law passed, but at the time we found out we were prego it wasn't in effect yet, and not sure if it has been put into effect yet.

You are very Close to the AIM guidlines, too bad you can't say that two of your other kids still live with you... Or can you
