Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

Yeah, that is how the last time was. Between sleeping, holding Isaac, and feeding Isaac, I had no time to do much else and I used all the stuff the hospital provided and did pack a lot of stuff I didn't need. That is why I was asking others that might think of something I might need that I didn't remember but most of the gowns, pads, undies, and bathroom stuff were provided as well as anything I needed for Isaac other than his going home clothes.
I had Isaac in a hospital in Memphis and this time I will be in a hospital much closer to home due to insurance and dr change so am a little nervous.

I will be having a c-section btw.

Thanks for the AIM link!

I'm not sure I totally understand it though.....does the second part across from the income level mean how much we have to pay? It says something about 1.5% and it looks like we would have to pay over 1000 $ per month. Am I not reading it right? Theres just no way we could pay that much per month.

We just might qualify, depending on your answer, but do they accept already pregnant women? How does their coverage work?

I will do more research on the site myself, I'm just asking for real-life info from someone who might know the ropes better than me. Wish we could claim the other kids, but they are all either married, getting married, or in Law school, so they are pretty much to far along in their own lives to be of help to my situation. We do pay on some of their educational loans, but I doubt that helps.

I dont think I want to do a home birth, since having a C-section with my 3rd child, I have become addicted to epidurals! I did 2 NON-medicated births first, proved to myself I could do it (honestly, I was afraid of the epidural needle! that was the only reason I went med free) but once I found out epidurals DONT hurt, I was a changed woman! Some may call me a wimp, but, I LOVE a pain free labor. And I was able to push and feel the birth, but I felt it without the "Ring of Fire"! Seems I've pretty much done it all- Med-free vaginal birth, C-section due to placenta previa, Vbac with epidural, another Vbac with placental abruption from pushing too hard, the whole gamut!
I've also experienced loss at 20 weeks along. Worst heartbreak of my life, but has made every one of my children so much MORE precious to me.

I LOVE the lists of hospital stuff!!

Sorry to giggle, but it brings me back (waaaaaaayyy back) to my first baby. I brought TWO big bags of stuff- never opened either one! LOL!

By baby #5, all I bring is slipper socks with sticky bottoms X's 2, a nursing nightgown (one I have already washed in DREFT so its nice and soft and comfy), a going home outfit for me and baby, and a car seat. Yep, thats it. Course, I tend to rush home pretty quick after baby is born, I havent stayed longer than 36 hours since baby #3, so I dont need much. The hospital will provide alot, including drinks, ice, snacks (for hubby usually) and many essentials you need for those first few hours. Sometimes ya GOTTA speak up and ask for those things, but you will get them. Theres always coffee at the nurses stations, vending machines, and usually a nearby foodjoint outside the hospital for those midnight cravings (hubby again)

For all you first timers, I want to say, stay in the hospital as long as you feel comfortable doing so (or as long as insurance will let ya) Those nurses can be a God-send during those first hours and days, and you have forever with that baby, let the nurses baby YOU for a little while! It REALLY can make a HUGE difference in your energy levels once you get home, if you get to relax and maybe sleep a bit before going home from the hospital, you will feel better, and be more able to take on the coming sleepless nights.

That is how much you would have to pay total for all of your care, you can pay it all at once, or have it split into 12 monthly payments. So my total is $600 and something, so I have to pay $53 and change every month for the next 12 months.

And yes, they accept already pregnant women, that is their purpose, to get already pregnant women coverage. Depending on what coverage you have available in your area, you will get to chose. I could use my parents address and get Kaiser, but the closest Kaiser is 2 hours away from my house, so I chose Blue cross and have a hospital 15 minutes away.

Good Luck, and feel free to pick my brain, I LOVE AIM! I thought for sure I would go broke on hospital bills when no insurances would accept me.

Added to say: And they have Covered EVERYTHING so far, I don't even have Co-Payments. And they continue to cover me for 60 days after delivery.

you ladies have quite the lists! holy cow...I imagine you guys are the type that when you go on vaca you need 2 suitcases for a weekend trip

I haven't really thought about what I want to bring, but it wont be nearly that long and it will all fit into a backpack. I can pack for a whole week of camping in my backpack so I figure that will be plenty for a hopefully short stay at the hospital. I really dont want to be there too long, but not like I have any idea what will actually happen and how we might feel after birth. Right now I just can't imagine leaving all my animals for that long. My DH will do a fine job, but no one loves and spoils them like I do. I am just thankful that the snow will be long gone at that point so I wont have to worry about that.

kelsey - a water birth? I bet that is pretty cool...after all said and done you must report how that goes for you.

I'm not going to have an actual waterbirth, just plan to labor in the water. My Hospital used to do waterbirths, but had problems with infection, because their tubs don't have filters, they were only meant for laboring. So I asked if I could bring a water birth rental tub with filter, she said she would prefer if I just labored in the Big tubs they have, but then gave birth in the Bed, which is fine with me.

lol if it's just packing for me a very small bag suffices for a weekend trip... clean underwear + 2 spares, socks, 2 tshirts. hairbrush, toothbrush & paste, soap. that's about it. Oh,and my medications.

my list was what the hospital said I needed when I went in to have Arwyn.

most of it never got used.
I've still never used my top & tail bowl, utterly pointless thing!

ebwy2- What is a top and tail bowl?? Never heard of it. I'm gonna have to go do some googling now....

So..... How are all you first trimester mommas doing? Anyone feeling the queasies? What about the sudden intense need for sleeeeeeeeeepppp!!??

I'm gettin hit by the tiredness, and its killin' me!! I still gotta manage 5 kids, the horses, rabbits, chickens, dogs, and cats. Oh, and my cousin and her 3 kids just moved in with us till she finds a job and her own place, so I am dying!! And still havent told my hubby about the baby, so I cant lean on him or make any complaints about the symptoms or I give myself away!

Anyhow- I power through somehow. How about ya'll?

I have only 3 weeks left of the first trimester... Woot!! And so far, no queasies...

Sleep on the otherhand, is a love-hate relationship.. I want it badly, but mostly, don't get it. I toss and turn all night and wake each time that I do so. Naps were necessary the first month and a half.. I would fall asleep with little warning when sitting. Maybe a yawn as a hint, then out like a light. I have been avoiding the naps in hopes that I would sleep better at night.. It hasn't helped. But I still feel sleepy enough go to bed earlier than pre-pregnancy, whether I actually sleep or not. Then I sleep late. Luckily, my hubby leaves me alone and lets me sleep whenever and wherever the mood hits me. Yesterday, I was asleep for an entire road trip of 3 1/2 hours.. Not to comfy for my neck, but hey, I was tired!!!

Uhm, when are you going to tell him?
