I didn't know that was on or I would have recorded it! Those kinda things don't really scare me, I take them as educational. My big labor fear was the pain but I know epidurals work on me so...

Then again, I also watched 'I didn't know I was pregnant' until it went to straight re-runs. I gotta kick out of some of the women who had PLENTY of symptoms but just ignored them all by blaming the flu or something. And the women with the medical conditions that masked the pregnancy were amazing! THEM I could understand not knowing...

I wonder how they didn't know, especially when my boy moves so much and even moves my entire body at times. How would one explain away the fact that your belly is moving?

"I thought I had gas" was one of the more common excusses from the ones in denial. And some of them had smaller babies with anterier placentas, so they really had no chance of feeling anything until late in the pregnancy.

The ones with medical problems were the most understandable. Several had been told by multiple doctors that it was impossible for them to have a child, even with medical help. Example: One lady was about 400lbs over weight, lost 100 and apparently triggered ovulated. But with her other symptoms (she had some disorder, can't remember what it was called) she never noticed. She ended up going to the hospital for what she thought was food poisening. The docs knew her and didn't even bother with a pregnancy test. She went to use the bathroom and a nurse that came in to help saw the baby in the toilet. They got her out before she saw the baby and got a doc there ASAP. Added shock #2: She delivered his twin a couple of minutes later. Both boys were decreed healthy but premature. I can't remember how long they stayed at the hospital but they did one of those 'a few months later' updates at the end and they all looked healthy and happy.

ok, I need help from experienced mamas here. I have my list of things I still need and there is a reason I have saved them for last.....clueless!

I would appreciate some ideas here if you could, please

I am gonna breastfeed, have a pump (actually 2) and will be using bottles when I return to work and maybe before then so I can finally have some much needed alcohol

I was told that using bottles with the bags is better so I will do that....now do I need to buy one brand of bottles with the same brand of accessories? Are nipples/milk bags/bottles interchangeable or do I need to buy all the same brand of each item?
there are so many choices I don't know what to do

secondly, nursing.... are there better bras than others? Should I get a bra in my current size and a bigger or just go bigger?
Best breast cream? better pads?

thanks for any advice here!

All you first timers who are scared or nervous about labor, especially when those reality shows are on- try to remember, those shows are SOOOO overly dramatic! If they just showed uneventful, normal, run of the mill labor and deliveries (like most of us have), those shows wouldnt be so popular and then they wouldnt get sponsors to play commercials during them.

Labor ISNT that bad, at all. Delivery is the best really because you finally get to DO something! Labor doesnt last forever, whats one day in the course of your whole life? Yeah, you might be in for a few hours of pain, but who amoung us has never been in pain or suffered for any period of time? Not that I can really compare a nasty flu to labor, but the flu sure lasts longer and you sure dont end up with a baby afterwards!!

Its just the fear of the unknown, thats all. Labor is normal and natural, nothing to fear at all. It will only last for so long- and yeah, if you go natural, its gonna hurt a bit, but really NOT something you cant handle (done it twice all natural) and you can get pain killers in many forms. I was soooo scared of an epidural, I thought it was going to hurt, but it DOESNT, they numb the area first, and you really dont feel much, and if pain killers are your route, it is so worth it. I was able to push and everything, the only thing I missed was the pain of labor. You can also ask if your hospital provides a 'walking epidural' (many dont, but its an option), an walking epidural kills some of the pain, but you can still move around and feel some pains.

Oh and c-sections arent that bad either. For me, it was the recovery that was tough. I didnt take more than tylenol for pain though, it was more the physical restrictions form the surgery that bothered me. I wanted to be up and about right away, but being in bed more did give me more time with my new born, so I guess there was a silver lining.

Funny that this is my 6th child and THIS time the reality birth shows are giving me anxiety!! I just try not to watch them anymore. I know I can do it, but watching other women freak out or act nervous is just getting to me this time around. I dont think I could labor and deliver in any calm manner if I had a bunch of cameras and strangers in my room! I dont know how those women do it!

It's strange, here I am 8 weeks from Due Date, and I'm not worried about labor at all, maybe that will still set in. But I think of it this way, It's gonna happen no matter what, unless I have reason to have a scheduled C-Section. But I plan to labor as long as possible without an Epidural, and use the Bath to labor in, as well as walking the halls. But if the pain becomes where I can't take it anymore, I have no problem asking for an epidural, and if I manage it natural, then Wooo hooo, I am woman, hear me Roar!!! LOL. I am typically a planner, but this is something I can't plan, so I have taken the view of, I will take it all in, in the moment.

Agreed! Labor isn't that bad. Yeah, it hurts, but keep in mind that it doesn't last long when compared to being pregnant for 9+ months. I was happy to be in labor because the pregnancy was coming to an end and I got to see/hold my little one. And I didn't really enjoy being pregnant (alot of extreme morning sickness and acid reflux to the point of vomitting for me) and by the end of it, you don't sleep comfortably or much at all and you feel like your body is running out of room for the little one. So you will probably find yourself really ready for labor. Just take your labor as it comes and remember it will end with a beautiful baby for you!

I believe Playtex is the only brand that has the bags you put into the bottle. You should use the same brand of nipples and bottles. The bags it doesn't matter as much which brand they are. I used these for the first few months of baby's life and then switched to the regular bottles because baby gets bigger and is able to handle more air in the bottle. I like the Lanisoh brand breast cream. I used both washable breast pads and diposable. One thing to remember to pack when out and about with baby is an extra shirt for you, too! Sometimes you leak beyond the pads. I bought nursing bras from Pea in a Pod store. I believe it was an Elle McPherson brand. Good luck!

I have the Playtex bottles with bags and I LOVE them. I'm pretty sure the wal-mart brand bags would fit in them, but I haven't tried it. As for the bras, I bought Medela brand nursing bras...the regular ones w/o the underwire and the sleep ones. They were both good. I would just go ahead and buy a size up. Make sure you get them without the wires or they can put too much pressure and clog your milk ducts.
