I use the denagard since I believe I have mycoplasma, been dealing with it for a while and suppose to treat them every month. Then I realized it had been 2 months since I treated them cause I was worried about how the chicks would handle the meds. The outbreak began and I lost 3 hens and 3 chicks. grrrr not a single roo died, just hens

think I may have had a secondary infection brought in by the wind storms we have been having....been giving Baytril to the ones that look to be on deaths door and that has done it for me. Just annoying to have to individually dose and administer the baytril. Wierd cause some of the birds got over it real easy with the denagard and some needed the baytril. Nearly lost my only phoenix hen, I would have cried like a baby if I had lost her.
The ones I had that died looked fine and within 12 hours would die without advanced warning. the ones that have survived (except my phoenix) had tons of eye and nasal discharge with sneezing. The ones that died just started breathing funny and 12 hours later they were gone. I am breathing a sigh of relief now cause it looks like the last few sick ones are improving each day. now just to see if that last chick survives the ordeal. lemme know how the duramycin works for you...and do they drink it good? I get concerned that the chickens hate the taste of the denagard and I feel like I battle more cause then I get sick, dehydrated chickens instead of just sick chickens.

They drink the water with the Duramycin in it just like it's plain water.

Sounds like our chicks have the same thing. I have no idea where this came from. It almost makes me want to burn the brooder coop and build a new one!!!!

I lost my only splash OE chick, and my only blue OE chick. Made me want to cry. They were kept in the house for 4 or 5 days. I put them in the brooder pen and they start to die!! I just cleaned it out before I put them out there, but I didn't do a very good "biohazard hose-down" so I feel like it's all my fault. I am disgusted, but to huge and pregnant to be very agressive. I just prayed over all of them yesterday -- God will let me keep the ones I need, I trust.

Sounds like your treatment may be better, but I can't find those drugs around here. Chickens are super-popular in this area, so treatment finds are limited.

I WISH WISH WISH I could say the same. The CRNA's have trouble getting the needle in between my vertebrae. It's now been hypothesized that my vertebrae are too close together. So, they hit bone and hit bone until I'm a complete basket case. (The lidocaine shot prior to the actual anesthetizing procedure only goes so deep, you know.)

With my oldest DD I thought the problem was b/c the CRNA was in training -- the Dr. was able to get it first try that time. So, on the second DD I thought it would be much better b/c I had a VERY experienced CRNA. He ended up describing the event to by OBGYN as "challenging" -- that's b/c he was BEHIND the needle -- my description would be "TORTUROUS!"

It is my prayer that I can go without any needles anywhere near my spine!

Yup, this is a likely problem for me. Thus, water all the way or for as long as I can stand it. Plus I'm incredibly short waisted so they have a VERY limited area they can try to put the needle in without it impacting my breathing, but then it won't catch all of my uterus, blah de blah de blah....

Dear Rufus and Reginald,

Please be positioned correctly to not require a c-section. If you are agreeable to this, you will have nice "human" names. If you are disagreeable, I am seriously considering making you keep your "dog" names as your siblings call them.

Thank you,

Mom/Incubator

LOL.

You can do it! I know quite a few women who have had twins naturally. Ppl hear "twins" and automatically think "c-section." Not true!

Yup, my doctor said as long as the first one is positioned correctly and the second isn't transverse, he's willing to let us try to go naturally. He figures I'll wind up having to do a general instead of an epidural anyway if it has to be a c-section, so he doesn't mind letting me give it a try.

Thus, the boys are getting lectures on being in the right position on a daily basis. One at least already likes to kick me in the ribs to remind me that he is behaving. Sigh.

I had to order the denagard online and I am lucky enough to work at a vet hosptial so I can get most medications I need there. If it wasn't for the baytril I would have lost atleast 3 more.
I cleaned the coop as best I could, thought I did a good job but then realized I missed a few spots and totally forgot to clean out the storage area of the coop. I had to let my scientific brain take a back seat and know that I can't control everything, otherwise I would have been a mess over losing those hens.
