Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

I've never taken my breast pump to the hospital. If for some reason you need to pump while there, they'll get you one to use. But, usually they don't want you to pump if your BF'ing because BF babies don't get bottles. They want the baby to acclimate to mom's nipples (can I say that here?) and learn how to properly latch.

If they give a BF baby a bottle, it could cause confusion = frustration for baby and mom.

Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances, and in those cases, nothing I said above would hold true.

I left my lanolin at home, as my nurse at my doctors office said to use Cherry Chapstick instead, it's less sticky and messy, and the baby's like the taste, so they latch easier. But they did give me a small tube at the hospital of lanolin if I chose to use it. The hospital also gave me a medela pump to keep, since I had to pump because Luke was airlifted out, and the Hospital he was at wanted me to bring pumped milk when I was able to leave my hospital to go to him. I did wear a nusing cami, so I wasn't completley topless when I fed, or in my case, Pumped.

Well, my appt went well today. She's still normal and due sometime between 11/5 and 11/11. LMP says due date of 11/7, first US says 11/11, and second US says 11/5.

I guess she'll just come when she's good and ready. My BP and her heart rate were both good.

We did have a nice discussion on pain management. We've decided to just see how things progress and then make a decision on if I need/want an Epidural. Dr says that if the pain is unbearable in the beginning, he'll go ahead and order an epidural. If I can wait a little longer he can give some IV pain meds until I feel like I need an epidural. Since this is our first, we don't know how long labor is going to be. If things are going slow, he says he definitely wants me to get an epidural so I can get some rest and reserve my energy for pushing. So far everything is on go for regular 'ol birth. I want to avoid a C-section or an induction if at all possible. Only in the case of an emergency would I be willing to consider either of those options at this point.

I held off on the epidural, and did IV pain meds for a while, they work great, but only last about an hour, and in order to give you more, they have to check your Dialation (SP?), which hurts more than the contactions, so after getting IV meds 3 times, I said screw it, and got the Epidural, LOL

IV meds are one thing I will NEVER go for again. They didnt do much for me, except make me loopy in between painful contractions. I think the high of the meds simply distracts you a little bit from the pain, but for me, did NOT stop the pains, at all. There are issues to research on any and all IV pain meds and their affects on your unborn/newborn every mom should look into. Im not anti-IV-pain med, just anti IV pain med for me (Ive had them all at some point, and didnt care for any, and some make you barf). ASK your Dr or hospital AHEAD of time what the names of possible IV meds they may give you so you can check them out.

Im a GIMME MY EPIDURAL NOW kinda mom. I know its not right for everyone, but it works for me.

I think I only have about 45 days left (saying 7 weeks seems like FOREVER! LOL!) and I think we have just about everything ready now. Just picked up a really nice bassinette at a resale shop for 35 bucks (I did have a 25% off coupon, or it would have been a tad more) and picked up 3 new car seats as well. All the kids are graduating to the next size up, or just out of car seats in general. I NEVER thought I would someday have enough children to fill BOTH rows of back seats in a mini-van!! Wooo Whoooo!!!

Yah, if we have another baby I will go right for the epidural (Although we will probably do a scheduled C Section) I went 12 hours without the Epidural, then another 24 hours with beforethey did the emergency C-Section, and let's just say I LOVED my anastithiolgist. He was pretty awesome all around, when he found out DH is a nursing student he let him watch him put in the epidural, and explained everything along the way, then was explainging everything they were doing and why to DH while they were doing the C-Section. DH learned a lot! Just an all around nice guy!

For me the IV meds worked great with no side effects, but nothing like the Epidural, I just couldn't stand to get checked when they wore off, and I had to get checked to get more.

I had an epidural with 3 of mine - first baby dr told me I had to have it even tho I didn't want it and it was because I wasn't progressing fast enough for him (wasn't a big deal, I'd only been in labor 4 hours and it was first baby) but I was making him late for a meeting so he wanted my pitocin turned way up. Jerk.

Second baby, they tried to give me the epidural, but it didn't kick in until after he was born. So, didn't do me much good.

Third baby, they messed up my epidural and I ended up with spinal headaches. I also had IV drugs before the epi, and I spent the first half of my labor vomitting every 5 minutes from the Nubain. I spent the first few days after going home just laying on the couch in pain, with my son right next to me. Every time I sat up I thought my head would explode. Five days later went back to the ER for a blood patch! LOVED that blood patch! Headaches were gone within 10 seconds!!

Fourth baby, I told my Doc no matter what I say, no pain meds, no epi, zip! Had him completely natural - and it was the best delivery ever!! No episiotomy, no tearing, and was my fastest healing.

Fifth baby was a c-section due to placenta previa.

Baby 6 will be a c-section, too

I have 35 days to go!

Yes, I'm A negative. Baby is negative, too--but I'm not sure which type.

I'm also A negative...
I assume you are home now? And how are you and miss Audrey doing?
