Falling Down Heights, my daily life

Pics
Hi,

I saw you were building a goose house and wanted to check it out. I just finished building a duck house but it still needs paint. I am hoping I can do it before it gets too cold outside.

I have no real construction skills, but I am hoping this last as long as the chicken coop I built.

Looks great! Much better than what I did with my limited scrap wood!

Since it's nice and tall, I would add a 'second storey' to it in the form of a shelf they can access with a ramp. Gives them extra floor space so to speak.

I don't bother with painting but that's mostly because I don't have any! :lau

I was wondering if they would actually walk up to second level if I built a ramp. Hmm...
What kind of ducks do you have?

I know @WannaBeHillBilly 's ducks use their second level a lot, especially the females.

I hae a sort-of second level which is the top of the nesting boxes. I use large storage bins with a hole for them to enter and need to put shavings on top because they love to sit there.

Alright! Pics of the Goose Caboose!

Ignore the wonky sheet of wood on top, I just put it there to be out of the way. There's an actual roof under it! I still need to do a bit of work on it, like blocking off that space on the left, and eventually make a bigger door for ease of cleaning (right now I take the roof off and climb in using makeshift stairs) as well as making actual pen walls for when there's a metre of snow on the ground, but otherwise it's functional, lol!

They didn't want to go in yesterday evening either and I actually had to wrestle Colt in, but they seemed to have no issue hanging out outside of it while I worked...

In other construction news, as mentioned before I finished the platform for the bunnies.

Now I need to enclose it against the weather (double layer of thick plastic vapour barrier) and put in raised supports for the cages so I don't have to be leaning over to feed/water/clean them.

One last bonus pic of Taiyo sleeping on his bed while I worked.

It will be nice to have the sides all put up so I don't have to tie him out. Being a scent hound, I can't have him off-leash because he'll just run. I've heard of people letting theirs loose only to never have them come back.

It's been raining and cold (and some snow yesterday!) for the past two days so I haven't done any outside work.

The geese were still being brats about their new house, so tonight I put up temporary walls (pallets, pieces of wood, even a feed bucket!) to keep them in the area once I chased them in for the night, and they went in with protest but a lot easier than the last few nights. I was getting really annoyed with Colt's refusals.

And, if you didn't see it in the LGBT thread, I set a bunch of eggs...

21 Lemon Blue OEGB ones, and 12 bantam ones (Isabel Cochin roo x Isabel-ish Silkie mix hen). Some of the eggs are a bit older so we shall see how they do.

WHY do I do this to myself?!?
